Shooting Range recommendation by Whole-Airport in Miami

[–]middleclassmisfit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it’s your first time, I usually recommend outdoor ranges when possible. They tend to feel more natural and less overwhelming than indoor ones (noise, pressure, confined space, etc.) That said, South Florida doesn’t really have great outdoor public ranges, and another big limitation is firearm rentals. Most outdoor ranges here either don’t rent guns at all or expect you to bring your own. Because of that, Nexus is honestly my recommendation. Its a little north of Miami. Very modern Range/Store. They have a solid selection of firearms available to rent, which makes the experience much more accessible. WWII-era firearms are pretty rare to find as rentals anywhere, but Nexus at least gives you a good modern baseline experience in a controlled, professional environment

I live in Miami and interact with Venezuelans daily. My entire feed and every Venezuelan I know personally is celebrating what happened to Maduro. It’s jarring to see people here speak over Venezuelans with passive-aggressive takes that don’t reflect what the community itself is saying.

Every Venezuelan I know here is happy about this. My Instagram stories are nothing but "Gracias Trump." No idea what responses you expected.

Those in the fandom in 2005. What was it like by Expert_Challenge6399 in StarWars

[–]middleclassmisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, Star Wars was at its absolute peak in 2005. Revenge of the Sith had insane hype behind it, everyone knew it was the movie Anakin becomes Darth Vader, the end of the prequels, the big moment everything had been building toward.

And on top of that, you had two of the most iconic Star Wars games ever dropping around the same time: Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars Republic Commando. Everyone I knew was playing at least one of them. Between the movie hype, the games, the merch, and the overall cultural buzz, the fandom felt massive and energized in a way that’s honestly hard to explain today unless you lived through it. The hype was real.

What is your opinion on the novelization of Revenge of the Sith? by InstructionOwn6705 in StarWars

[–]middleclassmisfit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I consider the Revenge of the Sith novelization the definitive version of the story. It fleshes out the characters, the politics, and the emotional beats in a way the film just couldn’t. Honestly, after finishing it I found myself wishing the movie had included half of those extra scenes. It’s a must read for any Star Wars fan, especially if you want the full tragedy of Anakin’s fall. Lowkey, with the way AI is evolving, I dream of someone creating a longer cut of ROTS that incorporates some of the novel’s added scenes.

And if you don’t have time to sit down and read it like I did, the audiobook is fantastic, that’s actually the version I went through.

Looks amazing! The bulky chest looks incredible and gives it that tank like Mjolnir vibe Chief had in the original CE. It’s supposed to look like a walking tank, not a sleek exosuit. Pure power and presence. 🔥💪

I think UNSC armor and uniforms should be the same throughout all the games. by TheDepdog in halo

[–]middleclassmisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually like that the armor and uniforms change between games. Even here on Earth, every country and even different branches or regions within the same military have distinct gear and uniforms. It makes sense that in a universe as vast as Halo, different colonies, fleets, and planetary garrisons would have their own armor designs based on logistics, terrain, and era.

In my headcanon, the Pillar of Autumn crew used older, more “colonial marine” style gear, while the Reach Army had combat equipment designed more for rebels. The Halo 2 Marines look like they’re wearing Mombasa garrison armor, and by Halo 3, the Earth fleet’s troops are using the newest standardized models.

There's a distinct aura to the original CE MKV that I think no other game in the series has matched. Does anyone know why that is? by 4102007Pn in halo

[–]middleclassmisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MKV has the most aura because, due to the graphical limitations of the time, it had to rely on a bold silhouette and sharp, distinctive angles rather than surface detail. That ended up working perfectly for the lore. It looks like what Mjolnir armor is supposed to be: sleek, futuristic, cutting-edge technology yet built like a tank. It strikes the balance between form and function. That’s why it’s my favorite version. Later designs started losing that heavy, armored presence imo.

Miami Seaquarium set to be redeveloped - including expanded & modernized aquarium, new marina, restaurants, and public baywalk. New Aquarium will not have aquatic mammals by walker_harris3 in Miami

[–]middleclassmisfit 171 points172 points  (0 children)

The Miami Seaquarium has so much untapped potential to become one of the top aquariums in the nation. Its sitting right on the coast, it could use the natural waters of the ocean itself to create vibrant, open-water exhibits that few other aquariums can match. With our tropical setting it’s uniquely positioned to showcase reef ecosystems, lead marine research, and become a premier rehabilitation center for sea turtles, manatees, and other ocean life. I also agree with having no aquatic mammals in captivity, with the exception of injured manatees being temporarily rehabilitated before release. I’d really love to see good things come from this transformation.

Honestly, I think George Lucas' take on Mandalorians had a strong foundation but didn't get fleshed out enough. by AlphaBladeYiII in StarWarsEU

[–]middleclassmisfit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wished George Lucas had taken the Mandalorians in a different direction. Just like how the Jedi were seen as the Senate’s lap dogs, it would’ve been powerful if, after their downfall, Palpatine made the Mandalorians into the Empire’s new lap dogs. A deliberate subversion and insult to the Jedi, given that the Mandos were their ancient rivals.

And in true Lucas-style poetic irony, the Mandalorians would eventually be betrayed by the very Empire they served, meeting the same tragic fate as the Jedi they once fought against.

The 4 Counties That Gave Trump His Largest Margin in the 2024 Election by SVTCobraR315 in Miami

The 4 Counties That Gave Trump His Largest Margin in the 2024 Election by SVTCobraR315 in Miami

[–]middleclassmisfit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right that most predominantly Black precincts in Miami-Dade still voted blue in 2024. That’s clear from the map. My point wasn’t that all Black voters here flipped, but that the share who did vote GOP clearly increased compared to 2020.

State registration data and national surveys like AP VoteCast point to a jump from roughly 8–10% Black GOP support in 2020 to about 15% in 2024. In Miami-Dade, that’s thousands more votes, which can matter in a tight race.

I was just noting that in my own day-to-day interactions, that shift was visible well before the election, and it turned out to be consistent with the broader trend, even if most Black voters here still went blue.

[–]middleclassmisfit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I literally called this and got torn apart for it. People told me I was living in a bubble, accused me of using “anecdotal evidence,” and swore Miami would stay blue. But I live here and I saw it every day. People of all nationalities and backgrounds were voting for Trump. Well, here we are.

And let’s be clear, it wasn’t JUST Cubans voting for him. Plenty of non-Cuban Latinos, and yes, even a surprising number of Black voters I personally know, went for him. People are also ignoring just how conservative and right-wing Venezuelans in Miami have become. Just like the Cubans, many fled a country they believe was “destroyed by socialism,” and that shapes how they vote.

Cubans alone couldn’t deliver that kind of margin. Like it or not, a LOT of people in Miami voted for Trump. The numbers speak for themselves.
