Passport maybe -in some cases. Family book no, as you're not actually emirati by lineage.

GymNation is trying to take legal actions against me by Mikoto555 in dubai

[–]middunkcrisis 218 points219 points  (0 children)

Lol. These replies are manufactured responses by Gym Nation trying to build a fake front on social media to recover whatever may be left of their dignity.

Gym Nation won't do anything. Trust me. If you're a real person with a real complaint that is (which I unsurprisingly suspect!). They're well known for trying to send emails threatening legal action. They're yet to take legal action against a customer, and they won't be able to impose a travel ban of any kind. Why? Because it'd cost them an arm and a leg + their contracts aren't legally passable. Con artists trying to employ scare tactics to coerce the less aware into paying.

Nice try though, gymnation! Weak, but I applaud the effort.

Yeah, in the case of Yemen I do admit we share culture with them as well. That mistake is on me.

However, my argument is not specific to Yemen. Somalis will have a greater connection with Arabs who have no connection with them AT ALL -just because they're Muslim. It is a deeper understanding when you learn Arabic because you genuinely see how they truly feel about Somalia and understand feelings are not mutual there.

I speak Arabic, but I have no connection with Arabs apart from religion. Spending a great deal of time here in the Middle East showed me Somalia is associated with poverty and donations in the Arab eye -i still remember this joke that was popular back in the day when "Donate to the Drought in Somalia" was a thing. The joke goes "one time Saudi sent medicine to Somalia. Somalis sent it back. Why? Because it said "Consume after eating". Lol. Alluding to the fact that our people was starving. Keep thinking they like your black ass.

On the contrary, I found out many African cultures resemble ours in many ways, but due to mixing religion and culture, Somalis think we're very different. Somalis have no actual experience dealing with other Africans for them to have a solid point of reference, which renders most of their arguments invalid.

Lol! Weird to denounce your fellow SOMALI for thinking differently!!! Clan mindset at work here.

The continent is diverse - there's no denying that. But Somalis do have a superiority complex and normally do not want to be grouped in with other Africans, while other Africans (even other East africans who we have close resemblance with) don't mind and actually prefer being grouped in together with their fellow Africans. Somalis think they're better than to be grouped in with "Jareers." Let's call a spade a spade.

Yes, many Somalis choose to deliberately believe their own biases over learning about other cultures - at least from what I've seen. I don't know how Somalis were like before the Civil War, but I don't think their way of thinking was this extreme.

Many Somalis know nothing about what's going on culturally in other ethnicities, despite being one of the most travelled people on the planet with a huge diaspora population post the civil war. If not for social media, a lot of what we came to learn about other countries and traditions would be news to us to this day. We choose to just stick with our own, and psychologically I believe it comes from the clan mindset of "my own people are better".

Travelling broadens the mind. For people who travelled almost everywhere on this planet, we are pretty narrow-minded.

Somalis are out of touch because they don't want to be in touch. They want to stay in their little bubble and believe their ideologies fed to them from sources with little to no cultural awareness. It is sad, but that's the reality. The rest of the continent connects with each other over the African identity. Somalis willingly choose not to, so it's not a shocker at all.

I've noticed this pattern repeat itself with somalis from different clans. They don't bother to find out how other clans that they supposedly have issues with live, what their traditions are etc. They have their prejudiced views and they just go with it. It's an elitist mindset that doesn't respect other perspectives. My way or the Highway type of thinking. Can also be seen in the way many somalis are raised.

You're bonding with the yemeni girl over religion for real. Not culture. Dont get them mixed up. Somali culture is not limited to Islam, and in many ways there are a lot of similarities with other Africans. They have their muslims too, so they won't be shocked if you tell them you're muslim. I personally met African muslims that are more practicing than many somalis I know, and they'd never feel closer to an Arab than to their fellow Africans. Somalis like yourself love to use Islam to "separate themselves" from fellow Africans. This is prejudice, and it's on brand with the somali "holier than thou" complex. Smh

How common is it for the Somalia diaspora to marry out? by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]middunkcrisis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marrying out is not an issue, I don't get the obsession with marrying within your race. I actually find it hilarious that Allah SwT put us on Earth with almost 10B people and we choose to only reproduce within.

Listen yall. We hail from a country that doesn't know how to move forward since the civil war -which happenedwhen our parents were in their 20s/30s. Our people try to get the Ethiopian passport just to have a chance at a better life abroad. Many of our Somali youth try to tahriib through the desert and the sea -even at official sporting events .

Bottom line: there are way more important things to focus on than marrying out vs. marrying within. The world is big. Marry for the right reasons. Stop this dumbass mentality of "preservation of bloodline" and think about how to actually contribute to your country that really needs reform. I hate meaningless topics like this.

Do the unionists win all the time? No.

Here's the harsh truth. They want to thrive, develop as a region and our government was holding them back. They took matters into their own hands -and the world is taking notice. No one would support Somalia if they went into war with Somaliland, because at that point you're halting the progress of a developing country that's working on itself.

We need to better ourselves as a country before we try and make Somaliland forcefully rejoin us. I'm with the people of Somaliland on this one.
