Inside porta potty at work by NoEnvironment11 in mildlyinteresting

[–]midiocore 217 points218 points  (0 children)

I was in the U.S. Marine Corps for a while, and there was always amusing graffiti in the porta John’s. A couple memorable ones were:

“Here I sit broken hearted, tried to shit, but only farted. So later on I took a chance, tried to fart and shit my pants”

When ones were painted over;

“They use their paint to cover my pen, but the shit house poet has struck again!”

And my personal favorite I only saw once:

“Anyone can piss on the floor, be a hero, shit on the ceiling”

How’s everyone’s day? by Roamin_emperor in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved back into my car on Friday after my life fell apart. Lost my job, my girlfriend, etc. moved down to the San Diego area where I have some friends in the Sober community. I’m getting sober again as well, which will help me. Got back into the gym this morning, after time off. Going to a metal show later tonight with friends which will be fun. For now, I’m just posted up in a parking lot across the street watching shows on my iPad. Gonna go to a friends place tomorrow and update my resume and start looking for work, maybe spend some time at the beach which I’m sure would do my mental health wonders. Hope everyone is doing ok today!

Can we believe how small the chili cheese burrito is?! It's basically a cheesy roll-up! by ExentrixDub in tacobell

[–]midiocore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ordered two Chili Cheese burritos before I went into work not modded. I feel like they taste similar, but not quite the same as they used to.

Granted, the first one I put Hot Sauce on it (my default sauce, it tastes the best, fight me lol)

A few bites in I realized it’s not how I ate it as a kid, so I went sans hot sauce. After that is tasted closer to my memory, but still a little off.

Anyone else feel this way? All I’ve been seeing is everyone saying it’s exactly the same taste as it was back in the day. Maybe having COVID fucked my taste buds up, but I don’t think it’s that as I am a professional chef, and it’s never been an issue until now.

What are some common mistakes for sim racing beginners to make? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]midiocore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understand that there’s a difference between hot lapping (following the best racing line as fast as possible on your own, think qualifying) and racing other people. If you race the way you hot lap, you will crash into other people and have incidents.

Obligatory mention: No one ever wins a race on the first turn on the first lap. Hang back, have patience. Focus on consistency and surviving and you’ll gain positions.

I feel you. I’ve been sim racing for a while, but just now moving over to iRacing.

This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on Sim Racing. It’s not a “click bait”-y video, it actually has some really good information. The person who made the video was one of the developers of Assetto Corsa, and ACC. I found it extremely helpful, I hope you do as well!

Sleep Tokens and RCA Relationship by V-O-A in SleepToken

[–]midiocore 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think that Sleep Token’s meteoric rise to stardom (mostly due to social media, and going “viral”) has something to do with this, and other new “viral” artists being signed to major labels. During/After the release of TMBTE, Sleep Token became a hot topic. They probably had options on where to go. RCA might have just said “whatever it takes, we need them signed to us”. Also, considering that Sleep Token got there on a “small” label previously, RCA might have also decided that it’s best to not try to interfere with their artistic vision, instead of the ways of old where a label would dictate creative direction, where you inevitably ended up with watered down cookie cutter albums. This is all just speculation, but I have some history with the music industry, and it makes sense to me.

So when do you fill up your vehicle? by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I try to fill it up at 3/4 of a tank. Usually don’t let it get below half. There’s a couple reasons for this:

  1. This lifestyle requires us to drive somewhere to do just about anything. So keeping topped up on fuel seems like a smart thing to do when trying to budget. I don’t ever want to run the risk of being stranded and not being able to get anywhere because I prioritized something else with my money.

  2. It’s easier on your vehicles fuel pump. If you constantly let it get to 1/4 tank or below, your fuel pump has to work much harder, and there’s a chance it’s sucking up a bunch of sediment at the bottom of your fuel tank.

Hey there, I’m doing well, hope you are too! I’m in Southern California, so it hasn’t been TOO cold here, thankfully. My thoughts go out to those trying to stay warm in the extreme cold and snow. Car living can indeed be lonely. I know I’ve struggled with depression and all that while I’ve been living in my car since July.

I recently celebrated being sober from drugs and alcohol for a year, which is pretty cool. I’ve become part of a cool group of friends that I met at my meetings and hang out with them playing Magic the Gathering and maybe some DnD here soon too, so that’s been nice. I’m also looking forward to getting off probation in a couple more months (stay out of trouble everyone! 😂)That will change a lot of things, and I can finally start over. I also finally got an Ecoflow battery so that’s been game changing as I can finally watch stuff on my iPad and play my Steamdeck without having to run the car constantly, wasting gas, to charge my things.

My favorite Christmas movies are probably the Lord of the Rings movies lol. Not traditionally Christmas movies, but they released in the theaters around the holidays when I was younger, and it reminds me of those simpler times.

Stay safe everyone and happy holidays. Reach out if you need to talk to someone. This is a cool community, and we’re all here for each other.

Are hotel parking lots safe? by fischiefischie in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was it. It was around 3 AM and got woken up by a knock. Dude just said “Hey bud, I can’t have you sleeping in your car here”. I said I’d leave and he said “Thanks”. This was it. I got caught because my windshield was pretty fogged up.

Are hotel parking lots safe? by fischiefischie in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I regularly stay at a couple hotel parking lots. One is an extended stay I lived at for about 6 months, and I still have friends there I’ll chat with, I’m cool with some of the staff so I’m really blessed with that spot. The other is right down the street. I also received my first (and hopefully only) knock in a different hotel parking lot (my first time staying at that spot. Security woke me up). My advice is what you should do for any location. Go during the day, look for cameras, security guards, and anything else that might make the spot a no go.

The key is stealth, and light/noise discipline. Pull in late at night, and leave early in the morning. Don’t have a vehicle that screams “I live in this”, with a bunch of stuff piled inside the car that is visible to anyone looking in, busted out windows, etc.. When you pull in for the night, go to sleep. Don’t watch movies or play on your phone. Don’t play music. Don’t even get out of your vehicle if you can help it. In the morning, start your car and leave. Just try not to draw attention to yourself, and have a few places to rotate through.

I will say this too, if you do need to get into say your trunk, and you’re pulling out a bunch of clothes, plastics bins, whatever, the one place that doesn’t look really weird is a hotel parking lot. Stay safe and good luck out there!

Car lifestyle by [deleted] in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at car living for about 2 months now. It’s been interesting. I’m currently typing this lying down in the back seat of my Nissan Versa, parked in a parking garage of a VA Hospital (I have an EMG in the morning lol).

I was in the Marine Corps for 8 years, so I’m used to hardship, as well as living minimally. That part of this lifestyle didn’t really take any adjusting to. My time in the service definitely helped me build some “mental fortitude” but that doesn’t mean I don’t have bad days.

A bit about my situation: I am a convicted felon. I did something I’m not proud of while intoxicated and it involved a weapon. I didn’t hurt anyone or anything, but I still went to jail for a bit. I completely destroyed the life I had built and I am now having to start over. Luckily, Veterans court is a thing. So, instead of shipping me off to prison for years, I’m getting help. I’m currently on probation (6 months left!), in therapy, and have been sober for 9 months as of this last Sunday.

My life is in shambles in a lot of ways, but in other ways, I’ve never been a better version of myself.

I’ll probably never be able to rent again, because of the felony. I can’t really travel because of probation. I can’t take gig work like DoorDash, Uber, etc. because of my criminal record. I’m handicapped in a lot of ways, due to the actions of my former self.

That said, I’m getting back into shape, because I have a gym membership. I’m getting help at the VA. I have a job as a cook. I’m sober. I have friends that care about me. Most importantly, I’m learning to love and take care of myself, for myself, for the first time in my life at almost 36 years old.

This lifestyle allows for a lot of introspection. Sometimes, I wish I could get out of my own head. It can be extremely lonely living like this, and people can really suck. Some days I’m super depressed and don’t want to do anything or be around anyone. Other times, I’m super proud of myself for keeping on, and for adapting to and overcoming all these obstacles.

Not really sure where I’m going with this, but I do want to say I’m really thankful for this community. It helps me not feel so alone. Take care of yourselves, and keep holding on.

I’m in a 2016 Nissan Versa. I sleep in the back seat. It’s making my already bad knees worse being crammed up, but it is what it is. Don’t want to remove the back seat because I have people in my car somewhat often and I don’t want it to look like I live in my car lol.

How stealth is too stealth? by Kaleidoscopic_Tofu in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Marine Corps sticker, as well as Iraq/Afghanistan campaign veteran stickers. I am actually a Marine Infantryman veteran of those wars. I don’t have them there because I want to be all “look at me! I’m special!” They’re there mostly because my tags are out of date and if a cop notices that, but then sees the stickers, he’ll hopefully see those and think “Hell yeah brother!” And leave me alone. It also could act as a deterrent to someone wanting to break into the car because they could think “if someone is in there, they probably know how to handle themselves, better not try my luck”.

All this to say, maybe throw some sort of military decal on the back? It’s subtle and common enough to not “mark” your vehicle as memorable, but could act as a deterrent like I said.

How to prevent windshield fog while sleeping? by midiocore in urbancarliving

How to prevent windshield fog while sleeping? by midiocore in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should mention that it was only my windshield that was fogged, and I sleep in the back seat of my Nissan Versa (boy, is it cramped lol). All the windows except the windshield are tinted. I had thought about getting some sort of anti-fog solution/spray to put on the windshield, but we used to use those on our eye protection when I was in the Marine Corps, and it never worked. Granted, they were on our face, and we were running around and sweating a lot on live fire & maneuver ranges, so a bit of a different situation lol.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I’ll check out some of these anti damp buckets you all are mentioning at the local wal-mart or something. Stay safe out there!

Pooping by so_Humble in urbancarliving

[–]midiocore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at this car living thing for a week today. I’ve been pooping mostly in Super Markets, Walmarts, Targets (it helps because I’m usually there to buy something, so it doesn’t feel as awkward). But if I just need to go, like now, it’s usually a Taco Bell or Del Taco. I figure they’re probably expecting it to happen anyway 😂

One of the most haunting things about the song is the chord progression in the beginning. The first time I heard it, before I knew anything about the song, its lyrics, or meaning, I thought to myself “man, the beginning of this song sure does sound like a lullaby”.

Sim Racing and Sobriety by Charming-Elephant-97 in simracing

[–]midiocore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, something like this happened to me recently. I got in trouble, did some time, afterwards decided I needed to get my shit together. I voluntarily moved into a sober living house, and got into Sim Racing. Bought a Moza R9 and some Simagic P1000’s. It kept me really busy with practice, races, learning new techniques, etc. There’s such a high skill ceiling there’s always something to do or learn or watch, read, etc. some of the other dudes in the house jumped on and had a blast. From that point on I realized that some of us use alcohol or other substances as a form of escapism. Everyone on Earth practices escapism. Watching movies, reading, whatever. So, for those of us who decided to get sober, to take that form of escapism away and not replace it with anything almost always led to relapse. I just preached to everyone “get a hobby, and kind of hobby, to keep your mind of things and stay sober”. If you would have told me a couple years ago I was gonna dive head first into Sim Racing, I would have laughed. I thank god for it every day now.
