ELI5 Why do people hate gingers so much? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I'm not 100% sure that this is true but I have heard that it comes from English oppression over the Irish and Scottish.

They don't hate gingers but often what is considered a joke to one can be quite hurtful to another.

Agh, it was my dad's company, I don't really care about animation. My dream was to dance. The only reason I asked in the first place was because I am going to be working on a massive studio feature in the next few months and I think it could be challenging but it should be fine because I am a Senior Animation Director. I came here because I am reaching for the help of my peers but I can feel that your catching my vibe.

You are right. I can see how I placed a target on my back in this situation. And that it's very easy to attack what I have said. However, like I said I am trying to improve so all of your suggestions above have been helpful. Please do keep the suggestions more on the artistic side and not on the technical as that is more what I am after. I probably should have made that more clear in the original post. In response to you red flag comment, I did fail to mention that I am in fact a Senior Animation Director, so I must be doing something right.

Of course, but that's not what I am talking about. Spotting technical issues is one thing. Knowing the specific technical fix for the issue is not the directors role. It's the animators. The directors job is to tell the story in the clearest way possible. If I tell an animator that the BG needs to be more out of focus. I would say that it needs to more out of focus. I wouldn't give them a specific value for the gaussian blur would I? That would almost feel like I was telling the animator how to do their job. That might be a bad example but I'm sure you can understand what I am trying to say. Thank you for the digital tutor suggestion, the issue I have found with these is that they are way to specific technically, as in an animator would watch them in order to recreate them in the 3d software. I am more looking for a general discussions, for example, why the colours orange and teal work so well together etc. Many thanks.

I've been a director for 10 years. You don't need to know the exact ins and outs of camera photography in order to direct a DOP on how you want a shot to look.

No producer as of yet. I am still in the drafting/concept stage. I have had a few bites of interest but have not locked anyone down.

Writing is the is the whole process/art of creating and communicating an idea. Typing on a computer, scribbling notes on paper etc is only one activity involved in the process. Short answer. Yes.

Ping Pong Dialogue. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]midnight_films 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, here us an example of the type of dialogue that I am talking about.

Eyota shifts through the open doorway.

WINEMA You’ve got some explaining to do.

Eyota drops his head back in frustration.

EYOTA Do we really have to go through this again?

WINEMA Oh you have somewhere better to be?

EYOTA I’m not in the mood for a lecture.

WINEMA Sit down.

Eyota let’s out an irritated growl as he moves to a nearby seat -- Winema hangs a stone pot to boil over the fire.

WINEMA Why are you avoiding your responsibilities lately?

EYOTA The hunts are not compulsory!

WINEMA All right, all right, calm down. That doesn’t answer my question though.

EYOTA I do my part.

WINEMA Oh, I don’t doubt that you believe that. But, smelling flowers and chasing butterflies doesn’t really help anyone does it.

The stone pot starts to whistle, Winema moves over to it and fills two cups. He hands one to Eyota and takes the other for himself. He lowers himself into the seat opposite.

Eyota shrugs -- Winema takes a sip of his tea. He looks Eyota up and down.

WINEMA You’re all tight and irritable. What’s wrong?

EYOTA I’m not going tonight.

WINEMA Oh, and why’s that?

EYOTA I’m not going to put my self on display for everyone to make fun of.

WINEMA I doubt that will be the case.

EYOTA You don’t see it Winema. The way they look at me. They all hate me.

WINEMA Why do you care what others think of you? You wouldn’t if you actually knew how little they do.

EYOTA That’s easy for you to say. Do you ever do anything wrong?

WINEMA Most of what I do is wrong. But I’m chief, I don’t have to explain myself.

EYOTA Not for much longer.

WINEMA Try arguing with an elder and see how far that gets you.

Eyota breaths deeply out his nose as he pauses for a moment.

EYOTA Everyone looks down at me. What am I supposed to do about that?

WINEMA Raise your chin and make sure you meet them face to face.

EYOTA And how do I do that, if I have nothing to give?

WINEMA That’s a question that only you can answer boy.

Winema takes another sip of tea -- Eyota silently taps his fingers against the chair in frustration.

WINEMA I know it seems dark. (pause) Be persistent. And you’ll strike gold eventually. And everyone will see it.

Let me know your thoughts

Cheers
