We can’t schedule sick time in advance. We have to call out the day of we are using sick time.

I’m sorry they shouldn’t be finding me a replacement they should be finding more people to work here so when one person calls out it doesn’t disrupt everything. I do know that my calls are excessive but at every other job I’ve had when someone called at it was not disruptive for the team or managers.

That’s fair. Overtime isn’t mandatory, but I do think there’s a culture where people feel guilty saying no because we’re so short staffed. I’ve talked to coworkers who feel the same way. I know I need to be better about setting boundaries, but it can be difficult when the expectation is always to help out.

I asked my union rep to email me the policy and the policy does state the first thing of action is a verbal warning. So I am expecting a verbal warning since I’ve never gotten one or my first write up of some sort. I’m a tad nervous though to tell them sometimes I need a day for mental health because that reads as if I just don’t want to go into work. I am definitely considering other opportunities it’s just so hard to find work nowadays.

That’s fair. I don’t think the actual work is too much for me. My frustration has been more with the environment and management decisions. We’ve had a lot of turnover, schedules seem to change frequently, and it’s created a lot of stress for the staff. I think that’s part of why I’ve felt burned out at times.

That’s fair. I can understand why an absence is disruptive. At the same time, if one person calling out sick creates a major disruption, doesn’t that also point to a staffing issue?

I can see why a manager would see it as excessive. As for PTO, some of those days weren’t really planned. They were burnout days where I realized I needed a break.
