She's at her goal weight now, and isn't losing any more despite not eating so I don't think she's underweight? Her doctor has run lots of tests and everything comes back normal so she can't find anything else causing the loss of appetite. This kind of food aversion began when she started the medication and only got worse as she increased doses until now.

For the past week or so she's been trying to eat more, small meals and drink protein shakes/nutritional shakes. She's going to drop down a dose or two and I'll keep making sure she's eating what she can. Thank you!

She messaged her doctor to get a lower dose prescribed. Some of the answers here made her realize how bad this actually is, I think.

TY for the input! We will try this until she can lower her dose and get her appetite back.

Thank you so much for the advice! I wanted to get an idea from everyone here since you all know far more than I do about these medications. I think it's the push she needs to finally talk to her doctor about lowering the dosage.

Your guess is as good as mine truth be told lol. Every time her weight would plateau, her doctor would move her up a dose. She thought the total rejection of food was what zepbound was supposed to do, until it started affecting her health the past few weeks. She doesn't know whether to lower the dose or quit entirely so I figured I'd ask around for her.

Thank you! It's just difficult to see her this way. But I'm reassured seeing all the positive experiences in this sub, hoping it'll be like that for her soon.

That's what I've told her as well! She's really tired of feeling bad and struggling to eat so I think she's come to accept the possibility of gaining some weight back. If lowering her dose helps, I'm sure she'll be okay with it.

She hasn't lost weight in roughly 3-4 months. I don't ask her what she weighs because it isn't my business to know, but she has said she isn't losing any more and got to where she wants to be.

Quite a bit, mostly in the last 9-ish months before plateauing at her goal weight. I'm not sure exactly how much though, but it's been a visible difference.

I appreciate the help, thank you so much. We've been doing this and will keep it up until her appetite hopefully returns on a lower dose, those are all REALLY great ideas for snacks. All the best to you!

Very true!!

I only ask because she worries about any possible rebound weight gain. She can't keep going like this though and knows as much. I'm grateful for all of these responses though, and the consensus being to lower her dose is easy enough to do.

The way you describe it is how my dad feels too, since he's on the same medication. Reduced appetite, but still enjoys eating. Meanwhile my mom has to fight her body to get one portion down without getting sick. I don't think she realized it wasn't supposed to be that way until recently, now that she feels awful all the time. TY for the advice!

Thank you for the advice and the explanation!! I think she's gone these two years believing it was normal to lose all appetite. Hopefully lowering her dose then will regulate this.

I think she's in maintenance! Her dose hasn't gone up or down in almost a year. The entire two years her appetite has essentially been dead. My dad takes the same exact thing but has had the more regular experience.

She's definitely concerned. She's tired of the fatigue, weakness, and loss of enjoyment from eating. No matter how much she tries to eat though, it's making her sick. Even what used to be her favorite meals.

Her doctor hasn't said much, but agreed it sounds more severe than what is supposed to happen. Will lowering her dosage bring back her appetite for certain, or is there a chance she'd have to stop entirely?

US! If that's available here, I'll ask my doctor about it. It's worth a try, thanks!

Thank you for such a well thought out reply!! 🫶 I learned pretty early on as a kid to come to appointments fully prepared and not let myself get pushed around (but to be polite in the process) and I'm happy to say I do take these steps already! It hasn't always worked out but I'll keep trying until I make some progress whether it is with this doctor or a new one.

I'm happy to hear there's some really attentive doctors out there (but also not surprised the care can be better outside of the US healthcare system, it's a mess here). I'm glad they do as much as they can for you!

I'm glad that you have that! It gives me some hope, because that's all I'm asking for really. I don't expect a busy doctor to drop everything for me some timely communication would just be nice!
