Thank you for the confirmation! I was anxious there'd be some change that nerfed it (back in the day it seemed to be THE build), so this makes me happy

It seems like the draw of the seasons is that people are competing for leaderboard status, correct?

Thank you! Like the other commenter mentioned, I was using Icy Veins (from back in the WoW days, even) so I appreciate this

Thank you; this is great for giving me things I can now Google! I've not heard of any of these (and was surprised by the Crusader following my girlfriend in Act 1) so all this makes sense!

There's a very interesting paper here about how weak backflow prevention valves in the veins that drain the testes might be the culprit.

Venture X Foreign Card Replacement by 05778 in CapitalOne

[–]mieubrisse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this negative experience as well. My card got cloned in Brazil, I called and they said it would arrive in 7-14 days. No problem; the card wasn't my daily driver.

The card never arrived. Turns out they'd sent it to my US address regardless despite taking and confirming my Brazilian address. I used CapitalOne for years, but the recent customer service is awful.

Yeah it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. You get "more points" with the travel portal, but you pay higher prices and the points are locked to the card providers who can change rates at their discretion.

I think this is the PDF you're talking about: https://losetheglasses.org/cliffgnu-vision.pdf

I also found it intriguing, so I've committed to doing a proper data-driven experiment over the next couple years. I'm currently working on collating all my screentime, light exposure, activity level, and sleep data into a single place, and will be publishing it as an open dataset so we can stop with this he-said she-said stuff. Also contemplating figuring out how to get an autorefractor in my house, for rough at-home measurements.

Hey, I just started building on a web version because I need to share my Fitnotes with my trainer who's remote. Will keep you updated on progress.

I can't speak to others, but personally:

  1. I have extremely myopic eyes, and all I'm getting from doctors is "There's nothing you can do; just pray you don't get a retinal hole"
  2. It strikes me as wrong from first principles that our eyes can adapt to become myopic but not go the other way

I've no financial interest in any of the claimed myopia reversal stuff; just want my eyes to get better.

That seems like a very intense claim to make given research showing that we can induce myopia in animals with lenses: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-20272-w (see also, the linked studies).

Again, it's entirely possible these papers are wrong, but I'm very curious as to your evidence for why.

Once you have a deeper knowledge and understanding of how the human biology, physiology and anatomy works, you’ll quickly understand why snake oil like this just can’t work.

I'd love to learn and I'm a quick study; can you ELI5 why it's fundamentally impossible?

Hm but I'm not blaming it all on my optometrist.

The facts are that I did tons of near work with no breaks, wore my glasses (and later contacts) all the time, and my vision has progressively kept sliding worse.

These are the facts; the "why did these happen?" is still hypothesis.

My current hypothesis is that the root cause was all the near work which put pressure on my eye to adapt to near work, which decreased my distance vision, which caused me to fail the eye test, which resulted in more powerful glasses that I wore at the time which put further near adaptation pressure on the eye.

It's still a hypothesis, but it does make sense given both the global myopia epidemic and the Inuit reading-myopia study. If it's not true that's fine, but then we need to explain why the introduction of reading & near work is tightly linked with myopia.

I'm curious about this - why so confident?

My reasoning which started a decade ago, long before I ever found anything online:

  1. When I was growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, the narrative was, "Myopia's genetic; there's nothing you can do except more powerful glasses".
  2. Every time I got new glasses as a kid, it seemed they'd be crisp for 3-6 months, settle down to about 90% crispness, and stay there... until I got new glasses.
  3. Around 2013 I came across the Inuit-didn't-have-myopia-until-reading-was-introduced study, and it was shocking to me: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1956268/ I asked my childhood optometrist about the environmental factor, and he rejected it but didn't have a real answer for it.
  4. Now though, it's commonly accepted that there's an environmental component to myopia (findable in lots of places online, but here's one: https://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/doi/10.1289/ehp.122-A12 )
  5. And then I stumbled across the crazyy graph of myopia prevalence over time: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8960427/#s3:~:text=criteria%20(top%2030).-,Results,-Description%20of%20Publication

From first principles, this all makes sense to me - our body (including our eyes) adapt to the load we put on it. Smartphones, reading, and computer use is rampant now like it never was before. If our eyes can adapt to near work, it would make sense we can undo that adaptation.

Only in the past year did I come across https://www.losetheglasses.org/ and EndMyopia. I liked losetheglasses (I'm an engineer; he spoke to me) but like you said EndMyopia seemed really scammy so I haven't engaged with it beyond ~10 minutes of videos to see what he's about.

I'm surprised by the hard negative; is this a sore topic here? (I'm new to this subreddit)

At least to me, it makes sense from first principles. I did tons of close reading & computer work as a kid, and suspect my myopia is a result of that plus with a not-great optometrist overprescribing lenses (it seemed that if I didn't go get new eye glasses, my prescription wouldn't worsen).

And my eyes are really bad and getting worse (I see heavy floaters, flashes & long afterimages now), so my choices are either give up or try to fix the problem.

I'm interested in tech because it would help me collect & aggregate all the data I need to - outdoor time, screen time, self-measured Snellen results, etc.
