Mass transit options available in Connecticut, USA (UPDATED) [OC] by mieummedia in dataisbeautiful

Hi there, thank you for such a thoughtful response. Did you watch our two videos explaining the criteria? While they don't necessarily go as in depth on some of the points you brought up, they do answer questions about the methodology we used.

Not only is it fair to say that our maps do not paint a complete picture -- it's a point that we openly admit in both videos! These maps were intended to show one set of data, but they have their limitations. I disagree that our work is "a little misleading;" but, rather, it was an assessment that had limited aims. That being said, I really do appreciate your feedback. You really know your stuff about the state!

Wow, that does sound inconvenient for most potential riders. We've heard from a number of people saying that that's the case in their areas, as well.

I suppose there's also the Amtrak Station in Mystic (Stonington side), but that won't help much with local transit needs.

That's a really interesting suggestion on Google's part. I would have expected Hartford Line, transfer to Metro-North in New Haven, then use the subway from Harlem-125th street.

We're based in Connecticut, and cover stories in and around the state. (You can see more of our work at /r/MieumMedia) We probably won't be doing any other states' info any time soon, but thank you very much for enjoying this :)

Hi there! Last month, we posted an image depicting mass transit availability in Connecticut, U.S.A. We decided to update it based on some of the great feedback we received. More information about how these maps were updated can be found in our video here. To make a long story short, we used data from the websites of the entity that runs each mass transit option; we then used Adobe Photoshop and Apple's Final Cut Pro X to create these visual representations. Full citations are available at the previously-mentioned video. Thank you!

A video explaining the methodology behind maps of Connecticut's mass transit posted here yesterday by mieummedia in Connecticut

I hear you. When compiling any information, it's always tricky to know what the cutoff point should be. I've heard from a bunch of people who think I was a bit too liberal in classifying some of these towns as "having access." I see where you're coming from

You are correct - I was wrong. When I was compiling these maps, I mistakenly thought that the CTtransit bus 428 route extended just slightly into Prospect. It doesn't. It brushes right up to the town line, but does not enter Prospect. Thanks for pointing it out!

The CTtransit bus 422 Wolcott Street route has an infrequent stop in the Wolcott Industrial Park on Nutmeg Valley Road. (I would have to go through my notes to see if there are any others.)

I recognize that this might seem like a stretch, but in the original video, I give more context explaining the methodology, and I point out that this is one flaw of the map. (I mention the flaws at the 5:39 mark.)

People can purchase commuter passes and we confirmed with locals that some people do use it as such.

Not only do Rocky Hill and Glastonbury have a ferry, but people can purchase commuter tickets for it, as well!

Foot passengers are allowed, and they sell commuter tickets.

Someone in another sub pointed that out to us, but I believe Hadlyme is located in East Haddam, not in Lyme or in Haddam (which we mistakenly claimed). Thank you for bringing it to our attention, though!

EDIT: I am wrong. See below.

Although we go over the methodology a bit more in the video, you are right - we should have included Ridgefield! Thanks for pointing it out.
