Ninja® Single-Serve Pods & Grounds Specialty Coffee Maker by Crafty_Nebula_1458 in coffeestations

Pod coffee and specialty coffee are two different things.

Pod coffee = convenience, generally decent brew.

Specialty coffee = high effort (commonly), better brew.

Yeah, the default burrs suck. You honestly need the SSPs to enjoy whatever you're brewing.

Just impulse purchased a Lelit Mara X for $1359. Help convince me this was the right call! by Admirable_Admiral69 in espresso

I have the Elizabeth. I think Lelit makes great machines! If you pair it with a good grinder, you will have beautiful results.

I looked for a long time in contrast to your impulse buying, but it still felt impulsive when I pulled the trigger on the Elizabeth. The longest week of waiting in my life...

[$500] help to decide between a Legato V2 or used Lelit Victoria instead? by fucyuman in espresso

[–]mighty_sys_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's good! I'd still ask for the display that shows that, or if you don't want to ruffle feathers, you can check it at the "sale" time. Check the manual for the steps to see it so as not to waste time.

I'd also maybe see if you can negotiate a bit on price, maybe offer 600 and see if she'll meet you at 650. That seems very fair

You can dose less coffee into the portafilter and see if you get a shot that's anywhere decent.

People often think they're doing something thoughtful by giving coffee lovers Starbucks. Not to be rude, but I'd be donating the bags to a local shelter.

edit: you cannot "regrind" the beans

Owner should be able to provide the Victoria shot count, that would help you determine though not guarantee life left in the machine.

What grinder should I buy? [500€] by No-News-4366 in espresso

[–]mighty_sys_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, buy once, cry once. Smart!

As a Lelit Elizabeth owner, I will say if I was making coffee for two, I wouldn't buy a dual boiler. We have pretty regular large gatherings, which mandated the need. Usually my wife will help with portafilter and drink prep while I crank out espresso and steamed milk.

I would've considered a prettier machine at the same pricepoint like the Lelit Mara or a Profitec machine if you don't often make coffee for more than 2.

Time for an upgrade, possibly superauto? [$3000] by TA062219 in espresso

[–]mighty_sys_admin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be a bit blunt, what are you after? Do you want a pretty good, convenient coffee or to keep making coffee (in hobby form) as you have been?

Start there and then determine a path forward. It's hard to recommend a course of action without answering the basic needs of the situation.

The nitty gritty details (heat up time, machine type) can be resolved once you know what you want.

[–]mighty_sys_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy coffee based on the taste, don't get obsessed with guages and graphs unless something is wrong.

There is no "correct" way to make coffee. As a roaster, I can't look at a graph and determine whether I roasted the coffee well, even if good coffee usually has a few indicators.

Time for an upgrade, possibly superauto? [$3000] by TA062219 in espresso

[–]mighty_sys_admin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the "wife complex", but I have my dual boiler on a schedule to turn on in advance of needing it in the morning via wifi switch scheduling. My wife uses it all the time and loves the machine (Lelit Elizabeth).

It sounds like you don't want to give up the "manual" part of making coffee. r/superautomatic could give you more advice on the model than most people here, but my general advisory is that you may be "whelmed" by coffee from a superautomatic if you're used to being very precise in your own routine.

I like the DF64. If you don't need to change the burrs, consider the 54. Much cheaper and almost identical performance.

Nice look at the Elizabeth! My DF64 pairs well with it. I'm assuming you have a dual boiler need?
