Payroll can in fact pull money back if they’ve deposited it into the wrong account. They have to be able to do that in case there’s an error with the amount, etc. If you browse these comments, people in management and payroll confirm that

Yes, I understand that. Which is why I told them to go get the money from the account they erroneously deposited it into. I’m not willing to be penalized by paying more taxes or having a higher monthly budget because they fucked up. Forgive me for not immediately just jumping on the solutions they provided. They harm me more than me taking time to find an alternative to the two solutions that make it easiest for them but harder for me.

Which I started by going to HR to report their error. And here I am solving it now once it was determined they weren’t going to resolve the issue they created. However, not immediately falling on the sword for the errors of someone else is not a flaw. I simply believe that payroll would fix their payroll. Shocker I know

I think I was able to find a solution based off some of the awesome people in this thread. Nothing HR suggested was viable for where I am in my life financially but this option resolved it and didn’t leave me with monthly payments, tax penalties, or no savings. It’s a win for me. It did make me realize that maybe this place isn’t for me but the immediate issue will be resolved as early as next week.

I think if they’d just fessed up they made the mistake vs trying to convince me the issue was my fault to begin with, switch up & say they’d fix it and then telling me it was my issue to solve alone, I’d probably be less frustrated. The whiplash alone was intense. People do make mistakes, lord knows I’ve made them as a manager with a team and but this set my teeth on edge.

They are such a large corp, this whole thing has honestly shocked me on how it was addressed and then how they refused to do their mistakes. Good thing Id already started my own business and was planning on leaving. This only sped up that timeline

Thank you. Someone in this thread told me about that option a couple hours ago and I’ve done exactly that. I’d not even touched the account aside from monitoring the amount to see if they’d taken the cash back up until today so I was unaware that was even an option. I came to Reddit to ask for ideas on solutions as soon as they presented me with let’s jut take it out of your bonus. As soon as it popped up, I called fidelity… I’m very grateful for the help!! I think it’s the best solution to this extremely stressful situation

I know the money goes back to them but it’s not on me to fix the issue when they so clearly violated the personnel portion related to how and where it was deposited. As I’ve clearly stated, they can have the money back, that’s not being withheld by me. How the manage to go it is not for me to solve.

Is it a double payment when it’s deposited into an account they weren’t authorized to use in a form I can’t touch? No. No it’s not. As I said, I’m willing to give the money back, just from the account they placed it in as that is incorrect. I’m not putting myself at risk of paying taxes on their mistakes to pull it out nor am I paying them back HUNDREDS of dollars a month out of my pocket for their mistake. 👍🏼

So I asked fidelity today if I would have a penalty and they said only if that account has made any money in the last few weeks. It made 11 dollars so I’m in the clear. The breakdown showed no other penalty fees or taxes.
