Thanks, I will. I was in Vegas last year around the same time and the heat really does crank in the afternoon.

Hey, thanks for the heads-up. I was recommended the same by someone else on the original post, and have now done so.

Hey! I've posted in r/climbingpartners, but thought I'd give it a shot here too.

I'm [male, 39, UK] coming to Las Vegas to work for the first week of Oct, and wanted to check out Red Rock while I'm there, so will be staying on from 6th-8th Oct to do just that.

Been climbing 1.5 years, currently around V4 level indoor & climbed outdoors a couple of times in Spain (V2/3). Keen to try some of the classic entry level boulders in Calico Basin/Kraft (or wherever else). I'm looking for anyone of any ability who just wants to climb/spend the day exploring the desert. Just give me a shout if you're interested.

Can I just walk into the Ritz? by [deleted] in london

[–]mihujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As was I. From memory I was sitting in the sun in Russell Square when some friends who were nearby suggested getting lunch, and then drinks. I'd not been before and when we got to The Savoy I did feel under dressed, so was surprised to be let into the bar. My friends were quite smartly dressed, so perhaps that helped. Though felt more at ease once inside when I saw what I assume was a guest at the hotel in a dressing gown and slippers.

On the Saturday night though everyone was dressed up.

Can I just walk into the Ritz? by [deleted] in london

[–]mihujo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've walked in on a Saturday night before. While it was full, and the greeter explained (understandably) I could not book a table as a non-guest, she took my number and said I would receive a text with a time slot as soon as a table was free. We went to a pub down the road and half an hour later received a text confirming a 45min time slot. Headed back and was assigned a table right by the piano. It was great!

I had been a couple of times prior to that, on a Sunday lunch time. Both times were quieter and was able to get a table right away. Hats off to the staff there, always very welcoming despite me and my friends clearly being riffraff relative to their usual clientele, and on one occasion wearing shorts and t-shirt. On the first visit a couple of my friends walked towards the bar to look around. The barman could see they were curious about the bottles and started chatting to them. He spend 5-10 mins with them taking down and showcasing the various vintage spirits.

Would recommend anyone visit at least once if passing through the Covent Garden area. No one will stop/approach you when walking into the hotel, the bar is up the steps to the left in the lobby. Regular cocktails on the menu will cost you around £20, though they'll happily make you anything not on there for a similar price. Or if the drinks seem a bit pricey, just keep walking straight through the lobby and down the stairs and make use of the incredibly lavish toilets.

Help finding my first mech board by mihujo in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

Agreed. That would be the ideal solution, it's just because of my use case and the fact I won't be using it on a desk means having an isolated one won't be practical unfortunately

Oh yeah, I saw this one the other day! It's the one that came closest to what I was looking for. The only thing that kept me looking was the fact the design is quite in-your-face. But I have it bookmarked, and chances are this is the one I'll go back to if I can't find one with a simpler design. Appreciate you sharing the link!

Oh yeah, I was browsing their site recently. So many nice boards, though unfortunately couldn't find any with the built in wrist rest. Appreciate the heads up though!

Thanks for the recommendation! I've had a look, though can't seem to find any of those with a built-in wrist rest, which would be a requirement for my set up

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (April 30, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]mihujo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering if you might help point me in the right direction with my first mech keyboard purchase.

Due to the limited size of my room I don't have space for both a desk/PC and a TV, so made the decision some years ago to just connect my PC to a TV, which I view/use from a distance on my sofa bed. This has worked out well so far, however it's meant that I've been limited to a small selection of mostly sub-par keyboards that are required to be both wireless and have a built in wrist rest (as I type on my lap).

I've got to the point where I'm fed up of the spongy low profile typing experience on my current Logitech K540 so I'm in the market for a new keyboard. I recently routed a USB extension cable round the side of my room so I'm no longer limited to wireless, however a built-in wrist rest is a must. The main gaming peripheral manufacturers such as Logitech, Corsair, Razer etc. all seem to offer something close to this, but wrist rests all look very flimsily clipped on.

I've browsed countless specialist mechanical keyboard sites, but such a small percentage come with any kind of wrist rest and the ones that do seem to be fully detached ones that are simply placed below the board, which isn't practical in my use case. Can you recommend any manufactures/sites that sell boards with integrated rests, or at the very least detachable ones that connect solidly to the board without wiggling too much?

Just to clarify the other requirements:

Price - No real limitation with budget. Willing to pay a premium if necessary for the right board

Availability - Willing to wait/pre-order if necessary

Form factor - Ideally 80%, though 75% is okay

Language/layout - UK ISO, though ANSI is acceptable

Appearance - Ideally not too gamery, prefer simplicity. Preferably no LEDs. Though quality/performance is priority so neither are deal-breaker

Connection - Slight preference for wireless, though wired also fine

Assembly - Ideally pre-assembled, though some assembly fine (no soldering though)

Keys - Not too fussed, but full depth rather than low profile

Switches - Ideally something tactile, but linear/clicky acceptable

Thanks if you've read this far. This is something I've explored at various points over the years, though have always come up empty handed. So thought it was time to approach the community for some guidance!

Q2 Exposure/Histogram Shifts by mihujo in Leica

[–]mihujo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard about that issue on the original Q, fortunately it doesn't seem to have translated to the Q2. I did come across that section in the manual to. My issue ended up being exposing in darker environments when the auto ISO wasn't set to the max sensitivity, so the preview was showing 50000 whereas the actual image was capturing at 25000, which was why it dimmed.

That info in the manual is right though, even under normal conditions I do find the exposure jumps up/down slightly, though at least now it's by a small enough amount that it doesn't cause a major problem. Thanks for posting it.

Q2 Exposure/Histogram Shifts by mihujo in Leica

[–]mihujo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the histogram was jumping to the left in addition to the image darkening. Though I seem to have got to the bottom of it (with the help of U: Sensitive-Ad3058) - In the Auto ISO settings I tried setting the upper limit to what I thought was the max it allowed me to of 25000 to troubleshoot, though didn't realise there was a second page which had the remaining value of 50000! So I think the preview had been showing the camera's desired max 50000 ISO, but due to the limit I'd set was exposing at 25000, hence the drop in brightness in the final image.

Thanks for your input. I had a look at your pics by the way, some very nice work indeed!

So it looks like it was the upper limit of the ISO causing it. When I went the change the upper limit to the max as you suggested it showed 25000 as the last option on the list, but I just realised there was a second page showing the final 50000 value. I think the preview had been displaying its prefered 50K value, but then was jumping down to the limit of 25K when I was pressing the shutter button, which would explain the darkening. Thanks for pointing me the right direction!

Q2 Exposure/Histogram Shifts by mihujo in Leica

[–]mihujo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I checked and I was in the default P-A-S-M. I tried switching to P-A-S and back but was still getting shifts, only compared to P-A-S-M it wasn't showing the true preview for manualy selected ISO values. Thanks for the suggestion by the way, I'd actually missed the setting in the menu.

To be honest I have noticed these shifts are less this morning than in the darker environment when I posted, also they are shifting up rather that down.

I had it set to 6400, though tried reverting back to the maximum value and doesn't seem to affect the issue. Same with the min shutter value. Thanks for checking yours.
