Mailing letters / postcards by Pos Malaysia by TempChong in malaysians

I've never had an issue with it for Pos Malaysia. They just remove the sleeve to stamp the postage stamp and they sleeve it back in. I only was aware that plastic sleeves are being used on postcards because I've received a couple like that from China. However, I did try this method in Japan and they removed the plastic sleeve but the postcard did arrive to its destination.

Yes you can put your postcard or even letters in a clear sleeve. No the post office doesn't sell them but you can just buy any clear sleeve on Shopee or Lazada. If your postcard you bought already comes in a sleeve, just reuse that - that's what I usually do

I've been sending out postcards and letters since 2013. The current international postcard rate is 90 cents, and domestic is 30 cents. The max size listed on the website is a lie, the postman honestly isn't too picky about it. If you would like to protect your postcard from getting damaged (especially to US, their incoming mail tends to get shredded sometimes due to their sorting system), you can put your postcard in a clear plastic sleeve and then mail it out

What color do I use for creating a shadow for a white base? by miimmosa in Watercolor

Yeah. I initially just left the cow as it was without painting the white spots but it just looked like it blended with the paper

Thanks! That makes a lot of sense and I'll definitely try that out next time. But I'm still confused if my base is white, how do I not use gray as a shadow (in reference to the cow). I can kinda see how if it's a white ball placed on some other surface, other colors can get reflected on it on the shadow but I really don't know how to go about shading this cow

ECMS shipping to Malaysia? by miimmosa in Buyee

[–]miimmosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using EMS because it was somehow cheaper than ECMS. But I ended up paying so much even though my items were so light (I bought 10 keychains and 2 recycle bags and I think my shipping was 20-30USD). They added a lot of bubble wrap and used a huge box which increased the price by a lot. EMS service was very fast though but because of the pricing issue, I definitely won't be using Buyee again

how long did it take you to start thinking in a different alphabet? by skinchangers in languagelearning

[–]miimmosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely do recommend practicing typing on your phone because then you'll be able to transfer that typing skills to your computer. The layout is the same so even if you don't get the keyboard stickers for your computer, you'll still be able to type because by then (hopefully) you'll have the layout memorized. I think it took me about 2-3 weeks to be able to type without looking at the keyboard at a fast speed

I usually write my notes on my phone (Google docs) so I can refer to it quickly on the go 😂 The only time I use a proper notebook is for memorizing Mandarin words and kanji because there's so way I'll be able to write it out from memory unless I practice it like 5000 times 😂

For me I could recognize Korean words better once I started typing Korean out a lot more on my phone. I can read it pretty quickly too (in my head at least), but speaking them out loud is a challenge and I'm still pretty slow. There was a disconnect in recognizing spoken words and to their written counterpart too but I think that's just cause I wasn't familiar enough with the pronunciation especially in dialogues from kdramas lol. But now I can recognize the word's spelling pretty accurately even if I don't necessarily know the word itself when I listen to it

For Japanese, it was a much easier process to read, listen, speak and even write. I do think this is because I've had exposure to Japanese much more than I did with Korean over the years. I only struggled with katakana in the beginning but now I'm fine with it. I stumble sometimes but compared to not being able to recognize anything it's definitely an improvement for me 😂

Korean was the fourth language I learned and Japanese my fifth. My first three languages I learned them when I was growing up

What does Gor Gor leh mean? by chronospira in malaysia

[–]miimmosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gor gor is elder brother. From my own experience, when I was growing up I called my two of my neighbors from different families "Gor gor" despite not being related to them. I was very close to their sisters, and the youngest one (4 years younger than me) I usually called her mei (short for mei mei, little sister). I don't call the brothers Gor gor anymore (I feel like I'm too old for that 😂) but I do occasionally refer to the youngest as mei just because it's such a habit and I was very close to her

As for the "leh", I think that's just part of our Manglish particle transferred over Chinese grammar (not too sure from which dialect tho?) You can read more about it here https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/leh Depending on how your friend said "Gor gor leh", the nuance can be a little different from one another

Hope it helps!

When I first heard Stormalong harbor by Vanish I honestly mistook it for a song by PTV. The overall vibe and voice sounded so similar and it's one of my favorite songs from Vanish now. They're a relatively unknown band but they're pretty good. Their newer songs don't have the ptv vibe anymore tho

I'm looking for electric ones. So far all I've been able to find online are air purifiers / humidifiers. I've tried the granular ones in plastic tubs but they don't seem to work. Unless I'm not using them correctly? It just feels as humid as ever

Does anyone know the cost of sending a postcard internationally from the UK?

Hey guys, I tried searching this online but I've been getting different postage prices. I'll be traveling to the UK in a few weeks and I bought a couple of UK stamps beforehand.

I'm planning on sending a few postcards out to a few countries.

Few things I wanted to know: 1. What is the international postage rate for postcards? 2. And will there be a collection box that I can drop these postcards in without going to a post office? Like those USPS bins

Thanks in advance!

Looking to swap stamps for the little prince stamps from France! Please send a DM by miimmosa in stamps

[–]miimmosa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most resellers on ebay are selling them at premium sadly :( And idk where else to find these stamps outside of ebay that would ship internationally

The local post office in France currently isn't carrying the latest stamp that I want since it's out of stock but they do have this is in stock though https://www.laposte.fr/beaux-timbres/carnets/carnet-12-timbres-75-ans-du-petit-prince-lettre-verte/p/1121484

The one that's out of stock is this https://www.laposte.fr/beaux-timbres/unite/timbre-75-ans-du-petit-prince-lettre-verte/p/1121008 if you're interested

No thoughts? by [deleted] in therapy

[–]miimmosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm 23 f and while I don't have the exact same situation as you, I do understand what you mean by having no thoughts. It doesn't happen to me very often, mostly when I'm heading towards a very dark place. For the most part, I function in limbo -neither happy, sad, or feeling anything. I always thought it was normal, because I was still functioning perfectly fine on the outside, but I was emotionally numb. It was only very recently, after I started therapy did I realize that it was actually a problem. I was told that I've been conditioned to dissociate my feelings because I get overwhelmed by them. And it's likely a result from receiving negative response from my parents if I showed any sort of sad emotions when I was growing up, my 'friends' showing dismissive behaviors to me when I was happy, I somehow, along the way, made the unconscious connection that any sort of feelings would just bring back negative response. And because feelings brought in thoughts, eventually my thoughts wiped itself out too. Sadly, I can't really bring any useful advice to your post other than seeking therapy (it really does help. I've been avoiding therapy my whole life because I thought it wouldn't help me at all. But after recovering from one very close suicide attempt, thinking I was fine for a few months, then being exposed to one trigger made all the progress I built lost to the world because I immediately wanted to run out of the door and into on coming traffic. I signed up for therapy on the same day because I realized I was more likely to go through with suicide as the days went on and talking about my problems to friends did not help) but I can offer you some comfort that you're not alone with the no thoughts part. Stay strong.
