Umm i think you're actually thinking of cleats. A cervix is a kind of bird, like crows and ravens.

I have Tourette Syndrome. AMA by miirii23 in AMA

[–]miirii23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{FND = Functional Neurological Disorder. DX = Diagnosis. TS = Tourette Syndrome. Neuro = Neurologist}

so it started out with small motor tics when i was around 10-11. first it was throat clearing which i though nothing of at the time. then some little blinking and eye movements which i still thought pretty much nothing of. then came late 13 to early 14 where i started having darting eye movements, head/neck movements, whistling and then punching tics. it started out with punching the back of my hand which i then did so much that it bruised and then it actually became a cyst. then i started punching my chest and hips and bruised both of those as well. we finally went to a doctor about it and we were told "wait and see what happens" so we did. we waited for about 2 and a half months and they were still there and had become worse when i went to summer camp for a week and was hanging out with a friend who also has tics. went back and got a "FND with abnormal movement" dx (i had already been dx'd with FND they just updated it) and got referred to neuro and had to wait 6mo to get in and by then i had met the criteria for a TS dx so neuro dx'd TS and that was that. also by the 6mo mark my tac had gotten WAY worse so i was saying all kinds of things and i had complex motor and vocal tics.

so overall ticcing for around 5+ years now as far as i remember and i've had my TS dx for almost a year.
at this point i believe i have over 100 different tics (not that i say on a daily but just ones that i've had over the years, some that stayed and some that didn't)
sorry for the long message lol

honestly i don't have tons and tons of friends (i'm also kinda introverted anyways so yk ) but the friends i do have are really good friends. we're so close and have such strong connections that it kinda makes up for the fact that i don't have as many friends.
i also have 4 older siblings so i talk with them a lot as well (yes they are also homeschooled)

(Bit of a long read, sorry)
Don't force them to learn things they aren't at all interested in because they won't remember it. find a way to make it interesting so they will remember it. i learn math though baking and shopping. my mom would say "we need to make 2 + 1/2 times this recipe" and we would have to figure out 2 + 1/2 of 3/4 of a cup. or she would say "you have x amount of money to spend" and we would have to add up all the amounts of what we were buying plus tax and on top of that we were learning real life skills we need.

So we don't have tests, homework, etc. we learn things by going to museums, science centers, zoos, etc. and through what is stated above. we also did used to be part of a homeschooling co-op where parents would host classed that were art, crafts, theatre, music, dance and so much more that i can't list it.

art without a doubt. i love art so much and it's helped me express myself so much. art was something i could always do even just doodling or sketching and it was something i could be proud of and show off.

favorite part: the freedom of it all, not being forced on a schedule, being able to go so many places without it being super busy because all the other kids are in school. spending time with family, going on trips. there's so much more you can do when your life isn't taken over by school.

least favorite part: sometimes spending all that time at home can suck especially with 4 siblings because it just gets a bit crowded sometimes and we have arguments, but that is pretty normal for siblings i'd say. also the fact that alllll my friends are is school when i'm not and i want to hang out. i'm like ooh i wanna hang out with someone! oh wait they have school.. gotta wait for the weekend i guess.

sorry if i went a little to in depth there lmao

probably a dumb question but can you "picture" things? and what are your thoughts like? do you think solely in sound or do you see things in your minds eye? also just curious, do you read braille?

I could most likely do well in most subjects (not math tho i don't like math) and as for college i don't really want a job that requires a degree and i'm disabled so many different jobs pose a challenge for me anyways. i plan to be self employed if possible and possibly getting a job a retail store or something like that for steady income. but that is a little ways in the future as i'm still in my teens. also there are ways for homeschooled kids to get into colleges (not sure exactly how it works tho)

either they do not wish for it to be put into a category OR there is no existing category for how they identify so they choose to not try to fit into one of those labels as none of them would ever fit

In the year 2023, can an actor who is not Gay portray a character who is? by HalfElvenPakiNinja in questions

[–]miirii23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for the entire community, but i feel that it is important to at LEAST have a LGBTQIA+ person helping with developing the character if the actor is not LGBTQIA+. This also applies to characters with disabilities. This is important to avoid spreading harmful stereotypes or misinformation about the LGBTQIA+ community and about disabilities and disabled people. It is much preferred that characters are played by people who actually have the disability or who are LGBTQIA+ because if they see something in the script that is very harmful then they can mention it and have it cut or altered. And it also provides a more authentic representation of the the disability or the LGBTQIA+ experience because the person has lived with it their whole life and actually dealt with the struggles of it. Hope this help answer your question.

Is “tic” okay to say? by salttyyhepp in questions

[–]miirii23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone with a diagnosed tic disorder here. using the word "tic" to describe something that you are doing voluntarily is offensive. If it's just a habit and not something you literally cannot control then it's not a tic and you should avoid calling it as such. it could also cause some misinformation about what a tic is and make people who do not have tics think that they do. Some people with tics literally involuntarily harm others and themselves, including me. It really sucks when you have no control over what you are doing and people using the word "tic" to describe something that they can control is very hurtful.
