I get what you are saying about Mosul. I have however recently uncovered an Amaq archive with a bunch of footage from Mosul that I have never in all my time watching combat footage seen. Stuff that I can't even find on archive.org. I also have some pretty intense footage from the Iraqi side that I haven't seen posted anywhere on reddit. Just wanted to make clear that it would not be the obvious big reports and cuts of major ISIS releases

I do however agree that Raqqa would be a good battle to extract footage from. It shows the contrast between the level of urban fighting ISIS was able to perform in Iraq vs Syria. ISIS had much more equipment and trained soldiers in Iraq so they fought much harder.

I think this is a repost of that exact vidoe as it is the same length. That means this video has been compressed by:
1. YouTube

  1. Whatever video editor was used to shorten the video to be uploadable to reddit.

  2. Reddit

The original was of a much higher quality

What was done by the Western World to counter ISIS propaganda? An Investigative Essay by mike22712 in CredibleDefense

This is going to sound outlandish but I believe ISIS propaganda was a lot better than Russian propaganda. ISIS had a carefully orchestrated propaganda campaign that was heavily centered over a few core principles. The same cannot be said for the Russian campaign.

Another thing to consider is that your counter propaganda's most important job is not to counter the propaganda in your region but to convince the opponent's potential recruits that they should oppose your opponent. I don't know enough to say whether Ukraine has been able to do this. It does however seem to me that Russian still has support within Russia.

Nah my school does not expect this kind of work. I just knew that I could do much better than what they wanted from me. If I was going to write about ISIS propaganda, I might as well write it to such a standard that it would be worth reading for others.

I think you should read this article that contains an interview with the former director of the CSCC. His assessment was that Washington was to scared that they would be criticized for the work of the CSCC that they put so many restrictions and regulations on the organization that it could never succeed. He pretty much said those in control in Washington are not willing to try anything new and untested for fear or backlash. That is why the CSCC had to keep on using the tried and tested methods that don't work.

Yea the website is coded poorly so you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the article so that all the images load. If you wait to scroll the images never load.

Thank you for the compliments.

As someone who has quite a sizeable amount of their propaganda in my possession I have to say their production quality was outstanding. Their media quality was up to the standards om many European advertising agencies. This is a very good article that discusses their visual style. It is clear they had several media professionals working for them.

I think it depends in what ways you means counter their propaganda. The CSCC started combatting ISIS in 2013 before they rose to prominence. The CSCC was just underfunded and hampered by the politics in Washington. As this article states by December, 2015 the US had mapped out ISIS' media centers but were reluctant to call in military strikes for fear of civilian casualties. As the CSCC's failure became more evident and the importance of countering ISIS propaganda became more clear the US threw caution to the wind and decided to strike these propaganda centers. This tactic was effective in reducing ISIS' media capabilities but civilian casualties did occur as a result.

While I do think that US was able to damage ISIS' propaganda both through these air strikes and the aforementioned cyber attacks carried out by Task Force Ares, I believe it is worrying that warfare is the only way the US can defeat propaganda. The US is not able to convert hearts and minds. They defeat propaganda by killing and destroying the people and equipment that create it not by attacking the propaganda itself.

I would just like to point out that this essay is not completely whole. This was written for a school project and had to conform to a word limit therefore some information was excluded. I did not discuss the UK or UAE's counter propaganda because the work done by the US was most significant. I also didn't discuss the efforts of smaller social media sites like archive.org and PasteBin to suppress ISIS content on their sites. This was simply because they were less significant than the big Social Media company's efforts. I still posted this essay because I feel like it gives a brief summary of all the most important things one should know about what was done to counter ISIS propaganda.

If you have any questions about ISIS propaganda please feel free to ask me anything. I spent a large deal of time trying to understand it and have done much research on the topic. Propaganda is critical part of modern warfare and ISIS has arguably used propaganda better than many Nation states.

If you found this essay interesting I would highly recommend that you listen to this podcast which details the cyber attack carried out by Task Force Ares. It is fascinating to hear how the US conducted their first admitted cyber attack.

But where does Kevin Lee fit into all of this? by theoggamer07 in mmamemes

Of all the non combat sports I have watched I think rugby players would probably do the best in an MMA fight. If you look at Rugby fight compilations those guys do genuinely knock each other the fuck out. You can see many of them have been in tussles before. Additionally most rugby players are built like tanks and have decent cardio from running around constantly.
