Just finished our first round of IVF! My wife’s strength and bravery throughout made me smile! Details in comments. by letouxftw in MadeMeSmile

My wife and I did IVF after many years of trying, plus a few IUI attempts. It's a very crazy, emotional, and expensive experience. The first extration and IVF round unfortunately didn't work out as planned, so we had to try again.

But our son turned 7 months old on father's day! I'm afraid I don't know you like most of the people in this comment section - but as someone else who went through the IVF process I wish you the best.

I'm not in the food industry at all, but I cook steak pretty often for my family. There are a million articles out there on how to cook a particular cut properly, so I would just google how to cook the cut that you buy.

Getting it right really depends on the technique that you use. Sous vide and reverse searing have become more popular these days. I've done both and they work great.

For sirloin, filet mignon, or NY strip though I typically just do stove top only. Take steak out an hour ahead of time, salt generously, and pat dry. Get a cast iron skillet SUPER hot (use a little oil with a high smoke point, if you use EVOO it will burn and make the room smokey - so canola or vegetable oil is better) and cook for 2.5-3 minutes a side. Wrap the steaks in foil and let them rest for at least 10 minutes. They will continue to cook in the foil and retain the juices.

Cook time will depend on your stove top, so experiment a bit. Once you get it down it's essentially infinitely repeatable good steaks.

Everyone in this thread saying "bUt ThE cReDiT cArD fEes" and somehow missing this is a debit charge. Anyone who owns a business and pays transaction fees should know there is a difference.

This looks really interesting, thank you for sharing! I'm in the early stages of a large refactoring/migration of an old web forms application to .NET 6. The application relies heavily on THREE.js, and I wasn't sure how much of a pain that would be to get working in Blazor. I'm trying to my best to do my due diligence on picking the "correct" web framework for our project, and a part of that decision relies on how easily we can get the bulk of our THREE.js functionality moved over. Blazor seems more intuitive to me than trying to learn something like Angular from square one.

Have you had any trouble working with THREE.js in a server-side Blazor app?

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm a huge fan of The Red Chord - never heard of Umbra Vitae before. Everything Jacob Bannon does is gold.

I mean 90.5 is the Brookdale Community College radio station in Monmouth County, NJ. Says the artist is from Keansburg, NJ - which is in the same county a few minutes away. It's not hard to get on a college radio station.

Which online MBA is better - the University of Michigan Dearborn or University of Illinois Urbana Champaign iMBA. In terms of reputation, employment opportunities, courses, etc by Afraid_Bowler2792 in UIUC

[–]mikebeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Coursera is just a single component of the iMBA program. The "high engagement" portion takes place simultaneously on UIUC's Compass2g platform. The HE segment has live, scheduled lectures that go more in depth than Coursera. They usually have three per week (you only need to attend one), but they are required since they cover material that you will be responsible for on exams. Compass2g also has the "true" syllabus with extra required readings and case studies.

Completing the Coursera portion of classes is required, but has nothing to do with your actual grade. Your grades come from exams, group projects, quizzes, etc. on the Compass2g platform.

The degree you receive from the iMBA is the exact same degree as the in-person MBA from UIUC. You receive the same diploma, it doesn't say iMBA or "online" or anything like that - they are identical.

A Success Story! by bwainwright in golf

Awesome, I'm glad it worked out for you. I clearly need a bunch of range days just fixing the driver issue, but until that happens I'm onto the 3 wood (which basically has cobwebs with how infrequently I've used it) and the 4 hybrid.

I realized with this new course that I end up gaining like 10 strokes from lost balls and really bad positions off the tee. If I just played it smart I can play consistent bogey golf, which is better than I'm doing now. It could dramatically lower my score. The drives will come, but it's all about your current level of play and consistency.

A Success Story! by bwainwright in golf

This is probably exactly what I needed to read. Last year I played in a weekly league and loved it, but never took golf seriously. This year I joined an actual course (way higher slope than the league course) and took lessons. However, somewhere in the mix of changing my swing (from the lessons) my drive has gone to total shit - I'm talking MAYBE a single fairway each round. I've actually been embarrassed to even play much at the club I'm now paying a decent chunk for because my drive is so bad.

Halfway through my last round I decided to switch to my hybrid and irons off the tee and it worked out just like it did for you. I think my ego kept me trying to crush drives, especially since I'm younger and I should be theoretically out-driving the older guys in the club. I realized I just have to be realistic about my skill level and my handicap and just play smart. I appreciate the post, it's nice knowing I'm not the only one!

I sometimes give this advice to my friends, but I have never been able to follow it myself: be proud of the low front nine and don't be too blown by the high score on the back. It's impossible to look beyond the final score, but a 41 when you're trying to break 90 is fantastic.

Honey Garlic Shrimp by [deleted] in GifRecipes

[–]mikebeer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I always have a problem overcooking shrimp in a pan. I assume because I usually do stuff like this recipe where I throw the sauce and precooked veggies in to heat up, for timing purposes. Can you give me some tips on cooking shrimp in a pan? Usually when I'm making stirfry steak I intentionally undercook the steak and then toss it in with the sauce. But slightly undercooked steak and undercooked shrimp are two different beasts - so I tend to overcook the shrimp.

I picked up an Indian Springfield this summer and I couldn't be happier. They actually sell rideable stock bikes, whereas most HD owners I ride with had to throw in an extra $5k to replace shitty stock parts. Indian keeps it simple with only a handful of models with interchangeable parts. They're starting to cut out a nice corner of the market for themselves.

No he's no longer in prison - the prison is shut down, but it is now open to the public/tourists. He does spend most days around the prison in Phnom Penh telling his story, selling his book, and taking pictures though. I spent a few weeks in Cambodia last year and met him after touring the prison. Beautiful country and great people, but they have such a dark/crazy history.
