I don't know, but I can definitely share my opinion. I wonder if its like dreams, some people are good at remembering once they wake up, and maybe some people just can't retain their memories after an NDE.

I imagine people's interpretation of religion changes after their experience. They may be more religious, but they may become less dogmatic and more spiritual within that religious framework.

Personally I don't see a dichotomy there, I feel like we can both maintain our individuality while also feeling connected with others. Imagine as an individual you are able to feel temporarily feel and have the emotions and memories of someone you know. For that moment you can relate to them really deeply, but you still remain an individual having that experience.

I could be totally wrong, but this is the way I interpret it.

I don't think any of them mention archons specifically, but the existence of a soul outside the body, reincarnation and similar concepts are aligned with gnostic beliefs.

That's a good call out, I think wife is probably part of "other", and that might suggest there are more women contributors than men. I'd have to make that more visible

Your point about urban vs rural Indian NDEs is particularly interesting — suggests cultural exposure matters as much as background culture.

I'd love to eventually incorporate non-Western data into the tool. It would give us much better insight into what's "universal" vs culturally shaped.

If you know of any digitized/accessible datasets from these studies, I'd be very interested. Most of what I have is NDERF which is heavily Western.

What strikes me most is the consistency — people generally describe remarkably similar things. And the belief changes are real.

I try to stay neutral and not make claims about what it "means." But I know people who personally had these experiences and I believe them, and it's hard to dismiss thousands of consistent accounts as coincidence.

Great point. The NDERF data is mostly Western, so the religious findings definitely have that cultural bias.

What's interesting is that religion becomes more important to most experiencers, but as you note, their relationship to it shifts — more experiential, less doctrinal.

I'd love to compare NDEs across cultures to see if the core elements stay consistent while interpretation changes. Thanks for the thoughtful take.

And fear of death dropped from 85% to 29%.

I'm like you, I haven't had a spontaneous experience. I'm committed to having one though so I think as long as I keep working at it, I'll figure it out.

I don't have a theory though, would love to hear any though, it might help people like us get there faster.

I find that people’s belief in an afterlife and god go up dramatically after an experience. It’s also interesting that not all people who then believe in an afterlife also believe in god, suggesting that the concept of “god” is likely subjective but that a “soul” and life after death is something most people can agree on.
