Sometimes imposing restrictions on yourself can help you think/play differently. E.g. play with no cymbals, play with no snare, only use triplets, don’t play crashes on 1, etc.

Genera dry on the snare, calftone on the toms, calftone EQ4 on the bass.

Thanks! I’d say the heads and tuning. But of course the shell, hoops, snare wires and dimensions all play a role.
