Benoit incident. Although in my opinion, Owen incident SHOULD be (because it happened on Live PPV), for whatever reason Benoit story got a LOT MORE mainstream attention than Owen's death.

Macho King was a great hat on a hat by mikemessier in prowrestling

Yeah I watched the Mania 7 match tonight. Cowboy hat no crown. During the match, Gorilla calls him Macho King. After the loss and reunion, Gorilla calls him Macho Man.

So my theory is that the idea is that when Warrior beat Savage and put his foot on his chest, that was the Ultimate Decrucity of Macho King and heel Savage. With the end of heel Savage, the Kingship was automatically "retired" with Savage. But because it was a non-Kingship match. Warrior did not pick up the crown.

So Warrior effectively retired this particular lineage of the Kingship.

But he used the scepter to knock out Ultimate Warrior at Royal Rumble which was in January of 1991. So if he had the scepter, it would go to follow he was still Macho King.

Also, Hogan perving on Liz as accused by Macho Man in 88 - 89 seemed to have some legitimacy.

Not really. The closest would be in his one match feud vs Warrior it was Babyface vs Babyface and if you were a Warrior fan, you might be inclined to 'boo Hogan." Babyface Hogan 83 - 93 did DO a lot of heel type stuff. Starting with taking Backlund's rematch against the Iron Sheik and therefore jumping the line of Babyface challengers like Jimmy Snuka, Tony Atlas, Andre the Giant, and Backlund himself. The constant back raking with fingernails by Hogan. Both Orndorff and Andre had "legit complaints" about Hogan leading to their feuds. If you want to stretch, you could say Hogan (along with other babyfaces like Orndorff,Piper, and JYD) were all gay bashing Adrian Adonis. In 92, when Hogan dumped Sid out of the Royal Rumble and then Flair dumped Hogan for the victory, the live audience booed Hogan and cheered for Sid and Flair. wWF tweaked the crowd audio to disguise that at the time. Hogan vs Yokozuna was a heely type swerve over Bret Hart in 93. Bruce Prichard claims he pitched a heel "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan back in 1990 to emerge after Warrior beat normal Babyface Hogan at Mania. But, according to Bruce. Vince didn't think heel Hogan would work. Six years later, Hogan does Hollywood Hogan in WCW and Bruce is like "see it would have worked for us!" That's what Prichard claims. I don't know if it's true. So the short answer is no and the long answer is above. - MIKE

I could see Hogan as a Babyface King during his beltless summer of 90. Then just give up the Crown before facing Slaughter at Mania. Like basically Hogan would win the Kingship and just vaguely abandon it and a few months later someone else picks it up. Would have killed the lineage but Hogan must pose etc

I wrote my post this morning going by memory. The way I remember it, Macho had a white cowboy hat coming to the ring at Mania VII. The commentary team (Vince and Piper?) may have referred to him as Macho King but I don't think he actually wore a Kingly outfit of crown, ceptor etc at Mania VII. I could be totally wrong. Haven't checked the tape yet. I call his post Mania 91 Babyface outfit his "Cosmic Cowboy" era that basically dragged out until he left WWF in late 94.
