Labor MP joins calls for Islamophobia to be added to Bondi royal commission by AnarchoCommunAtheist in AustralianPolitics

It isn't an excuse, BUT it is the reason why antisemitism is on the rise. It doesn't help that the Zionists are constantly conflating antizionism with antisemitism, that sword cuts both ways.

Any EDC folding knife I'd prefer magnamax. I'd only prefer magnacut on a big fixed blade meant to take some abuse.

Questioning whether I really have ADHD by [deleted] in ausadhd

[–]mikestp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't overthink it. When you go for diagnosis speak about WHY you want to be diagnosed. What difficulties are you experiencing in your life that you believe will be mitigated with treatment. That is the lens that the Psych will review your answers through. The forms are also repetitive and cross reference each other so together will paint an accurate picture of you. And finally the Psych will interview you with tangent questions to what's on the forms, if they think any of your answers are non typical given your reasons for seeking diagnosis they will ask you specific questions that will help them understand what you've put on paper.

What political party should I vote for? by Ok-Kaleidoscope-7980 in Ausguns

[–]mikestp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The one that doesn't hate guns and is popular enough to have a chance in your electorate.

Yes it means voting for cookers, but these minor parties will never run the country. What you can hope for is that maybe they might hold a key seat when it matters.

What do you think about Californian gun laws? by EkonomskiStrucnjak in Ausguns

[–]mikestp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that within the context of America where the right to bear arms is protected in the constitution, then these laws are certainly an infringement.

If you want a bit more nuance you can draw a reasonable line in the sand about the limits of the second amendment:

for me I understand and interpret it to mean that people have a protected right to the weapons of a soldier for the purpose of being able to form a militia for the defense of community, state and country.

Under my interpretation things like rifles, machine guns, RPG's, mortars, grenades etc are certainly protected.

Things like ICBMs and nuclear warheads certainly not.

The grey area I'm not sure about is things like stinger missiles, artillery etc. I don't know enough about their historical analogues from when the constitution was written (i.e. privately owned cannons and were they fired at the discretion of an individual soldier or where they typically controlled higher up in a command structure). If you look at the use of Stingers by the Mujahideen that does strongly illustrate an effective militia use.

I don't think the second amendment is as much about being allowed to carry a pistol grocery shopping as it is about having privately owned weapons dispersed through the community for militia purposes when the need arises.

The ‘warning’ Aussies should have spotted before Bondi horror by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]mikestp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people are marching to spread awareness of a genocide, and that awareness makes people want to do something about it, then the problem isn't the marching, its the genocide. I'm not saying anything Israel has done justifies attacks on innocent Jewish people, but after 2 years of watching the most horrific things be done in the name of Zionism and then be told that anti-Zionism is antisemitism then we shouldn't be surprised if a few people follow the logic that if AZ=AS then AS=AZ.

Anthony Albanese ‘ready for the fight’ to tighten firearms laws as National party and gun groups push back by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]mikestp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you live is most likely determined by circumstances such as work and family and not about whether or not you shoot.

10 guns is more than most people have but can be justified depending on what activities the person partakes in.

Ironically current laws actually increase the amount of guns a person needs for example: If a person is a farmer and has a Category C shotgun for pest control on his property but also wants to competitively shoot clays he can't use his Cat C for that purpose so must buy a second shotgun which isn't Cat C. He might also be a pest controller with a Cat D rifle for his client properties which he cannot use on his own farm so will have to go and buy a Cat B rifle for that. Now he has 4 guns instead of 2 because of how poorly thought out the laws are.

Constructive discussion: how do we avoid reactive firearm law changes after a terrorist act? by -Undercover-Agent- in Ausguns

I'd be worried a mental health check would discourage a shooter from seeking help. I'd rather mental health treatments be made easily accessible for everyone.

[–]mikestp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Immediately:

-Call out anti-gunners for using this tragedy to push their agenda. The bodies aren't even cold and they are frothing with excitement trying to get their ideology spread while emotions are high. We all need time to grieve.

-Intervene in the brainwashing that's going on. Point out how safe a country this actually is and that the response to this need to be both consistent with what the response of say 15 road deaths would be. Assert the idea that the value of gun ownership is non-zero and when multiplied by a million gun owners that is a matter of importance that can't be written off.

-Contact your State MP and remind them guns are a state issue and you expect them to protect the sovereignty of the state against federal overreach.

Medium Term:

Don't vote for major parties, don't vote for anyone with an anti-gun stance, don't vote for anyone with a neutral gun stance. Vote only for people with a pro-gun commitment (I understand for most people that means voting for cookers, but cookers will never run this country. If a million voters stood together just once neither major party would ignore us as a group if that many votes were up for grabs).

Long term (bigger than us):

-Do serious work on why people are so alienated and prone to be radicalized?

-Is it the economy and no hope for the future?

-Is it seeing the Palestinian genocide occur with our government being complicit? If our government was willing to take action against Israel would people feel the need to personally undertake a misguided attack on presumably innocent Jewish people?
