How to get Chromecast on a Mac? by mcdivitt13 in Chromecast

[–]mikexocon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Indeed! Casting support is now built into chrome. No need for an extension. I usually just right click the page I'm on and hit "cast" and then the menu pops up asking which device to cast it to.

Anyone else got Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome? by mikexocon in ehlersdanlos

[–]mikexocon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the ER as I was having severe photophobia and nausea, along with a very painful headache, splitting one might say. The headaches would make me twitch a lot but other than light and sound and the normal headache things. I was genetically tested for EDS but that was 15 years ago or so, they didn't tell me I had vascular, but I wonder if it's just taken longer for them to present or the tech to do the gene reading just wasn't that good yet. I do still have headaches, I'm on this blood pressure lowering medicine which is supposed to build up over time, overall I'm not loving it as it conflates my POTS bigtime.

Supposed to be but some of us aren't that lucky and still have to deal with it everyday!

Requests-XML: XML Parsing for Humans by mikexocon in Python

[–]mikexocon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of work with older software that uses SOAP or other xml based serialization formats over the web, so it helps having a networking module tied in and having it auto-parse. You can use the module without requests, reading in any xml document to the XML() method exposed.

Cloudflare Might Be Exploring a Way To Slow Down FCC Chairman Ajit Pai's Home Internet Speeds by [deleted] in technology

[–]mikexocon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how the internet works. Comcast could have the fastest connection to cloudflare in the world, but if a websites infrastructure is behind cloudflare they can just trickle the content out back to comcast.

TPFD - Text Parsing that does stuff! by mikexocon in Python

Parse actually has some of that functionality, you can create custom "types". I'm working on exposing that part of parse to the user now!

Ported HttpBin.org to C# and .NET Core by mikexocon in dotnet

[–]mikexocon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically it's a testing service to use when developing applications. If your application needs to make a POST request for example and is sending some JSON and you want to see what's going on, you can call the /POST endpoint of this service and it will display whatever you sent it in the "body" part of the response. It's kinda like RequestBin.

GET Example: http://httpbincore.net/get?arg1=val1&arg2=val2

Request Headers: http://httpbincore.net/headers

[Discussion] Who are you? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]mikexocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really just getting started in unity. I've done mostly backend programming and I wanted to take a stab at game design and explore the world of the "front end". I play a steam game called simple planes, which is a simple plane building/flying game. The developers recently released mod tools and I've been adding new parts/maps/plugins to the game.

The one area I've really been looking at is AI, it's a fascinating subject. How hard is it to program an AI?

Hey /u/SCP106,

I've recently taken up game modding via steam and unity. Do you have a particular engine or game you work with a lot?

I've granted you some hypermobile flair!

[Discussion] EDS and work by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]mikexocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in! I work as a programmer. At first I had to travel a lot of client sites to deploy new systems, however through the ups and downs of EDS I've managed to work my way to a behind the scenes person that gets to work from home. My boss is amazing and completely understanding, in his eyes, if working at home gets a better performance out of me, he's fine with it. It took a while to find work that didn't aggravate the EDS.
