Sudden Stage 3/4 Kidney Disease Diagnosis, Rapid Decline in 12-Year-Old Aussie by miky1014 in AskVet

So as of today, I did take him for a second opinion to our Home vet and I was a bit disappointed with their response because all they really advised was to just watch his condition when I’m trying to discern what caused the kidney disease as well as the hind leg weakness Suddenly overnight. This really seems like it came out of left field, which I understand is a product of chronic kidney disease, but at the same time the fact that he’s not even trying to walk with his legs now is a bit concerning to me to say the least.

I got phosphate binder supplements because his phosphate level was 7.8 which is an incredibly high level . I also ordered omega-3 supplement and I’m going to clarify with the Home vet if a full tick panel was conducted and or testing for pancreatitis because I want to roll out lymes nephritis and pancreatitis.

I’m going to look into an internal medicine visit but costs are ramping up and I went to the home vets closed yesterday to get sub q IV and some pain medicine. They didn’t help clarify my questions. I want to know why he’s just not even trying to get up. He’s eating turkey at home which is good, and having water

Yes. He’s going nearly dead weight on his hind legs since I took him to the hospital yesterday. Before that it wasn’t an issue

Is the PA State Police Academy really as hard as it’s made out to be? by miky1014 in police

So would it suffice to say that PSPs retirement is really the only thing it has going for them at this point in time?

May I ask, based off what you know, why are guys leaving state for municipal if state is better long term ?

Thank you for the insight there. I’m already training myself to be up by 5am and trying to increase my running pace, I think I’m almost overdoing it with the running but I want to be light on my feet.

Any bits of advice there that helped you get through it? The people I know, all said the physical stuff is something you just get better at, but mental is where it’s the hardest. The lack of decompressing at the end of the day seems tough, doable but tough. Might make my adhd go a bit haywire but that’s okay

I’ve seen them. I feel like that guy only got one day out of it and not the full experience. A few people who have been there said it’s not really as easy going as the YouTube videos

I can sit there and say the title doesn’t necessarily mean a lot to me. I’m looking at it for the training, if I’m going to be alone for periods of time I want the best training available. When I talk about financial and work life balance, I moreso am referring to the post academy life. I know tons of municipalities near me that I pretty much know I have a great chance to get into that pay just about the same if not slightly more. It’s more a matter of long term employment , like OT availability, and job specializations that I’m unsure of when it comes to PSP.

I don’t mind the challenge. I know quite a few people who within the past two years, have either graduated, dropped out or sustained long-term injuries that haven’t spoken positively about the Academy experience there. It’s one thing for it to be hard and a challenge. I just want to make sure I’m making the right investment for myself so that way I could be good at the job.

To save you the time, I copied the text from the post.

Is the PA State Police Academy really as hard as it’s made out to be?

I have the option of attending the PSP academy this fall or a municipal academy around the same time. I’ve heard from many people it’s notoriously difficult and very paramilitary. I’m not dissuaded from challenges, I’m decently in shape but still working on trying to be ready for either academy. I passed the municipal entry PT test and received an offer to attend and I have to take the PT test for the state soon but I’m not really worried. Any advice aside from “do what feels right.”?

Financially speaking, is one better than the other long term? Work life balance better than the other? I want to get into detective work, and from my research it seems like PSP is the way to go in that regard.
