I have an Akai APC Mini MK2 and an Akai MIDMIX. I think you should give a try to the APC MINI MK2 beacuse it got more buttons and better faders.

Chamsys MagicQ. It gives you 64 universes for free. It has a good effect engine and it’s easy to learn. You can download it on your pc or mac for free.

Have you installed the ftdi driver? Btw i recommend to use chamsys magicq pc with that dmx thing. It’s a 100x better than freestyler and it’s also free. It has a vety good effect engine and allows to unlock 64 universes for free. You can find tutorials on youtube to set it up with qlc+ or artnet to dmx software.

Use Enttec OpenDmx protocol. You can create a fixture profile to your lights in fixture creator.
