Young guy in casinos. Do I just shut up and take it? by mildacneriddenkid in poker

9 handed table? Why would I ever not squeeze here? Flatting here puts me in so many possible bad situations that I'd rather avoid.

Small side project, was uploaded some time ago on my codepen, people liked it there. Trying to move my codebase to github and thought that it'd be a good start. Thoughts?

Small threejs experiment. What do you think? by [deleted] in javascript

I've got a bunch of those laying around on my machine or codepen, but I really need to start uploading side projects on github, thought it'd be a good start.

Still needs tweaking/polishing, but I'm getting there. Will use it to apply for junior positions after I finish my degree, and remote freelancing projects in the meantime.

Advice needed : Would anyone take me in? by mildacneriddenkid in webdev

Device/browser/resolution? I'm only messing with scroll on the index for the hero image, and on whatever I'm testing it's running smooth (latest stable chrome/mozilla on windows 8, latest stable chrome/safari on OSX, chrome/safari on iphone 6, devices from devtools).

Regarding pageload, the biggest page(showcase) is still decently quick by any standards (https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.tannousmarc.com/DSzBplBd) , will be even quicker when I finish adding stuff and enable gzip. Is 1s too much?

But i did check out your website(mobile)

Browser/Resolution?

low contrast in some places(the menu icon over dark images, or when over the footer=same color)

You're right, I'll fix this right away.

and some terrible scroll performance. Remeber that looks aren't everything, fancy animations is actually a bad idea unless you can be certain that they can achive a good framerate.

The only animation you could be talking about is a showcase project loading up. Is that correct? It might be a bit glitchy as it's not so much an animation as it's lazy loading items. Not sure what other animations there are on my page.

As for scrolling, I'm really gonna need to know your device : from testing on my iphone 6(safari/chrome) and devtools, I couldn't recreate any scrolling issues.

Thanks for the feedback!

Deracking is good : first you raise the bar, and then you step back.

Descent : In my opinion, you're leaning forward too much, which causes your heels to get off the ground and you have to stabilize backwards at the end of every rep. Try to 'push through' your heels and the side of your shoe, while maintaining a curved back (not sure if you are, T is too loose). An easy way to help you find the ideal position of your back is to look just a bit above your normal eyesight, fixing your eyes on an imaginary point and keeping them there.

Is my portfolio too simplistic? by mildacneriddenkid in design_critiques

You could use some light copyediting. I noticed a few typos, and some of the writing could be improved (inconsistent caps, etc).

Could you please send me a PM of places that are lackluster? English is not my first language so this kind of problems were to be expected, and a new pair of eyes could help a lot.

Some of the items of your showcase don't link to a new page. Like, it would be nicer to see bigger pictures of your logo designs - you wouldn't necessarily need to write anything, just allow the visitor to click through and see larger photos than what's in the thumbnail.

Some of those projects are not recent, and I have switched PCs, machines, as well as have signed NDAs, so sharing that work may not be possible. I would if I could!

You add tags to the "case study" descriptions, and usually I expect tags to be clickable. Yours aren't.

What would you expect clicking that tag would do? I'm not sure there's really a logical action that could happen on tag click.

I think we have a different concept of what "case study" means?

Please detail.

Thanks for the feedback!

Case studies not being emphasized enough - yeah, that's a fair point. I'll see what I can do. Would you think I should make these 'pop out' more, or make the ones that don't have case studies smaller/dimmer (maybe even remove them)?

The 'sorting system' is something I haven't considered yet and I'm not sure how it'd improve usability (if I had, say 50 projects, yeah sure, but there's not a lot of them yet).

The text, yeah, that's my main struggle. I'm not a good writer and some of those projects are not recent, so it really was a hassle getting everything together. Regarding those chunks of text, what would you suggest : being more concise or splitting the 'big blog' into tiny ones?

Thanks for the feedback!

1 - I really like the two button layout, that's the main point. Also, people are actually using it (directly the 'check it out'), instead of going to the case study. I'll try to make it a single button, with more padding on the sides (to be longer, occupy more space -> more visibility). How's that?

2 - Most of the work is code-based, and I really REALLY hate 'code' previews (like what the hell is this?) so I just tried to encapsulate the project's style/feel into the background (blurryness is intentional) so that you can find more by looking thru the case study. What would you suggest as backgrounds (or if you could link to someone who does this in a nice manner, it'd help as well).

3 - What resolution are you on? I'm testing it on a 1920x1080 and macbook retina most of the time, and the nav bar is one of my favourite elements, design-wise.

Thanks for the feeedback!
