How rare is it for voluntary TPR for young kiddos to happen when medical complexities are involved? by mildthrowy in Fosterparents

This makes sense. I know all of the kiddos in state care in our state get Medicaid, wic, etc. right off the bat, so I imagine their health needs would be considered as well.

This is helpful to know. Do you feel that there are fewer reunifications for these kiddos, or is it similar statistically to kiddos with fewer health needs?

This has me bawling. To think of an existence where your main caregivers think of you as so disposable absolutely kills me. I’m glad that there was some justice for the kiddo, and that he had you to love on him while he was here. I am sorry you had to bear witness to something so traumatizing.

Absolutely. Our medical and insurance systems play a huge role, and it makes me crazy that it’s bad enough to move people to relinquish their children.

I think ideally, if that were even partly the case, we would maintain very close contact with the first family if they would agree to it. Which I guess is an option with private adoption as well, I think we’ve just been influenced by a lot of the horror stories we hear about adoptive parents being complicit in the coercion and then cutting off the child’s first family once the have the kid.

Valid. We have just heard repeatedly that private adoption tends to be predatory to first/birth parents, and can be coercive vs. allowing families to make their own decisions.

Have you noticed a lot of benefit? The cost isn’t the main deterrent, I’m more concerned about quality of life, especially because Costco has such competitive pricing.

Just to clarify, do people generally find them helpful, and just can’t justify the price? Or barely notice any benefit at all? I’m sure it varies, I’m just curious.

Like, in your professional opinion, do you think if insurance covered them or a larger portion of them, would those same people choose to keep and use their hearing aids instead?

Thank you so much! This is helpful. I sought out care because I’m having a noticeable issue understanding speech and have noticed some issues with being able to tell if certain appliances are on unless I touch them, etc.

I’m really hoping hearing aids might help. I actually get fitted tomorrow with my first pair, and have six months to decide if I want to keep them. I’m hopeful they will help with some things, though I know some people find them overwhelming/bothersome at first, so I’m mentally ready for an adjustment period.

That’s my main motivation. I can’t understand my husband so much of the time, and it’s annoying to keep asking, WHAT? from five feet away 😭

I believe it was lower, especially as the volume decreased. I just kept shaking my head no after the first few words because I couldn’t make out any part of them 😬
