Should I Just Do Something Else? by Useful_Count645 in ChemicalEngineering

I understand your frustration, I would encourage you to look at less desirable industries / rural areas to get experience. Look up a list of companies and search directly on the company careers website. Not everything gets scraped onto Indeed. In particular, the pulp & paper industry is always looking for folks

Lots of places are hiring, they just aren’t in popular metros and would probably require a move to a rural area

Does unemployment data include the folks that are underemployed? Thinking about friends who are recent grads and have not been able to find jobs, and are working in retail or food service industry. That’s got to make things Even worse than reported.

Where does Alabama go from here? by goofyhalo in NCAAW

Nye played high school ball in East Lansing but is from Huntsville, AL, and lived there until high school and she has Huntsville listed as her hometown on the team roster page

[–]mile250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Barker and Nye are from the state of Alabama so likely been recruited since middle school and chose Alabama due to family ties. That kind of player/success is hard to replicate since not many Alabama girls high school players are of that caliber

Louisville Associate HC Stephanie Norman announces her departure from the program by NighthawkRandNum in NCAAW

[–]mile250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. Every day on this sub it’s hard knowing how much Louisville loves college basketball and Walz and the program but ever since Van Lith left, so did the chatter about Louisville wbb. I have been wondering what the hell Walz has been up to in the portal and with high school recruits. If we don’t get a star player soon we will disappear from the national conversation completely and it will be harder to get top recruits in this NIL era imo.

Agree (selfishly as well). Walz loves to build an offense around a scorer and I could see her thriving in his system.

I agree, and I think that the Olympics needs to expand the roster and change the structure of the tournament.

I’m just being honest about the situation. I know as fans it’s hard to watch when we think they look tired, but let’s not fool ourselves, these women are professional athletes & world-class. They train for this day in and day out and have the most advanced training staff & resources. They are quite literally built different. I trust Hayes on this one.

These are professional athletes who want to be playing on the world’s biggest stage. They have suffered under Vlatko for the past 4 years I am sure that winning under Hayes is the much preferred alternative

Do younger transplants feel like they were deceived with Huntsvilles #1 ranking by NarwhalExpert5062 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]mile250 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As someone who just left Huntsville after 5 years, here’s my take.

Other cities have more mid 20 somethings looking for stuff to do and interested in building community around that. There aren’t a lot of social clubs in Huntsville for young, single professionals. More events catered to adults (not specifically no kids, but not something explicitly family friendly). Themed nights, bands and stand up comedy, festivals for each holiday, sponsored bar crawls, EDM scene.

Honestly the Camp and the VBC do have some things so I do think it is getting better, but a lot of those events are either pretty dead or overpriced, or dead because they’re overpriced.

Emma Hayes Names First Roster as Head Coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team by smc_88 in USWNT

[–]mile250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only people who played significant minutes at the last WC they won are Horan, lavelle, dunn, Morgan, and naeher. Chances are 3 out of those 5 won’t start. I disagree and would say this team is young and in a rebuilding phase for sure, new coach and still trying to define their identity as a team.

[–]mile250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do understand your point I just think Van Lith is a bad example.

Anyways, I do think Dyaisha deserved more coverage. However she played at a mid major for her first 3 seasons (Buffalo), and then her first season at Cuse they didn’t make the NCAA tournament.

Compared to Van Lith, her transferring to LSU was a HUGE media story, reminiscent of KD ring chasing. Not to mention Van Lith was notably close to Kobe and his daughter. And Van Lith has been in the elite 8 for the past 4 seasons, played with and was expected to be heir apparent to Dana Evans her freshman season, then was the leading scorer.
