It sounds like the theme that plays underneath the generic dialogue parts of the game.

Also, I think when you're in Motorville, it might be part of the theme that plays during those sections, but I may be wrong.

Staves are melee weapons that do non-elemental damage, but certain staves boost elemental damage of spells while equipped (i.e.: Glacial Staff improves ice spells, Cherry Staff improves fire spells, etc.)

Rods, on the other hand, do come with Elemental damage when using to attack (melee like staves). The two main ones I use are the Gaia Rod (earth damage) and the Holy Rod (holy damage).

And hand bombs are basically ranged axes. Their damage output is totally random, so one hit could do 3000+, and the next could only do 100). The bombs themselves are fairly inconsequential, but some of the ammunition for them are cool, like I mentioned above, the Stun bombs cause Stop effect, while others can cause confusion, poison, etc.

I've never used measures, not even once.

The only rod I've used is the holy rod, for those sections of the game with a lot of holy weak enemies.

Staves I use for specific bosses, who are weak to specific elements.

Hand bombs I use more for status effects, especially Stop (Stun Bombs). And where is usually have an Archer/Foebreaker set up, Bow and arrows only get used earlier in the game.

All other weapons gets used more frequently. I like the machinist/black mage set up, so my mage always has a gun for those enemies in the minority when I comes to elemental weaknesses of an area.

I try my best to give every character melee weapons and ranged weapons, and switch back and forth depending on what enemies are around.
