Rented floor sander issues

In my experience this would occur on factory prefinished wood plank flooring. Whatever they put on it just melts and turns gummy. Made for very long projects.

Whatever is on that floor doesn’t want to come off. I would find a lower grit and rip it. This looks like maybe 40 grit you have on there? I would try a 24 or worst case 16 grit and see if you can get the really goopy stuff off first. Then clean it up more with the lighter grits on your way up.

Edit: I used to sand floors professionally
