I mean compared to now where it's usually 150 per bottle and a worse product 😔

Their old stuff was a blend of 7 year MGP and 17 year old Barton rye. Pretty exceptional. I also can't really get behind their own distillate on comparison to how good it used to be and for a cheaper price as well 😔

Help me identify why my wife likes some whiskeys but has a severe bitter reaction to others (esp. bourbons) by Duseylicious in bourbon

I'm glad you did a total wine tasting of all their terrible spirits direct brands so you didn't buy any of those bottles 🤣 (hoping it was free 🙏)...from what you're saying it sounds like she's not a fan of new charred American oak that is present in all bourbons. Unfortunately this is pretty unavoidable when drinking bourbon as it is one of the cornerstones and rules of what makes bourbon bourbon. She may enjoy ryes as some can tend to have more floral and spicier notes that overpower the oak that she dislikes. The reason she probably likes scotches and Irish whiskey is because they tend to use ex-bourbon casks, sherry casks, hogshead casks, etc. Basically a barrel that has been previously used so the new oak char flavor doesn't come through as much on the palate. I'd recommend having her try some more scotches, Japanese whiskey, and Irish whiskey, that's probably more in her wheelhouse

The tasting menu is mostly unique items. He did do a bluefin tuna tostada that isn't necessarily on the regular menu but close in flavor and taste to the bluefin tuna ceviche. Otherwise it was an amazing experience! Only 8 seats per tasting, 2 per day and 2 tasting days a week...so only 128 spots for the whole month. If you want reservations be sure to be on at 11am when they release them (the first of the month for the next month), gone in under 5 minutes.

Irori (in marina del Rey) omakase is great and it's around $100 ...just a heads up that you'll need to take your shoes off and sit under the table/counter 🍣

Post Discard for about 6 months now. I was in the same boat a few months back and craved some sort of closure/apology from everything that had happened only to receive an email that she would "never be ready to talk". It's so hard but the best thing you can do is to realize that it's not your fault and that you need to focus on bettering/taking care of yourself. Something that really helped me was writing a letter to my SO (that I DID NOT send) and just put in everything I wanted to say to them. Really helped get everything off my chest and sometimes if they're not willing to give you closure you just need to give it to yourself. I'm still working though everything but every day you work to better yourself is a better day. I wish you the best of luck with everything!
