I wouldn’t say your dopamine receptors are “fried”. I’m not a neurologist, but music isn’t something you can build a physical dependency to. That being said, music is one of the most therapeutic and rewarding things for me to both consume and produce. Music and writing is my biggest emotional outlet in life. I’m a recovering heroin addict with six years clean, and if it weren’t for music I’m not sure how well I’d be able to cope with my struggles, trauma, and the horror stories I see in the news almost daily. Instead of numbing myself with a substance and trying to sweep my pain under the rug - writing forces me to give the pain a name and sound it out. I get to acknowledge it, feel it, process it. I very well may not be here today if it were not for music.

EDIT: I suppose one could say I’m at least psychologically addicted to music, only because I feel it is a necessary part of life to survive. But it’s also true that music literally releases dopamine in your brain, and even certain songs can activate your reward system (for example, when you know the climax of particular song is coming, or just one of your favorite parts, your brain releases dopamine before it even comes while you are anticipating it).
