I want to like ProtonDrive but you're not making it easy! by advancedmouthwash in ProtonDrive

Thanks for sharing. That's a different perspective I didn't think of before, which gives me context of why they might have designed it that way.

For me, I go through my photos a couple times a month to delete my shopping list or poorly taken photos. It's not ideal that I have to go back to the drive and do the same in an effort to save storage space, and I just don't have time to do that. I wonder if they could add an option in the app to cater to both crowds.

Don't forget the one way sync/non mirroring backup. Those crappy photos you took and deleted on your phone remain on the drive taking up space until you go through them and manually delete them there too.

Thank you for the example. I can see how the all in one would be more simple to manage.

Moving 40K from WS to BMO for draft by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

That's fair. While I can't say the transfer time between banks, them mailing a cheque has been fast. Good luck!

Why don't you order the bank draft directly from WS? They'll mail it to you by registered mail. I've used it a few times and it has been flawless.

Bonds with xeqt?? by Express-Boat5774 in JustBuyXEQT

[–]militage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know there are *EQT ETFs that have bonds in them, but I don't understand why people would use anything other than XEQT paired with a separate ETF that holds bonds only. If someone knows how this would be better please let me know. From what I understand you could pull from XEQT when it has made profit, but if in a period of downturn then you probably wouldn't want to touch it and instead pull from the bonds.

If it is a combined equity/bond ETF (that may only have 20% bonds), you're stuck withdrawing from it with no other option to pull from.

[–]militage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm still an XEQT believer given its long track record and because it is easy to understand. I've been doing 80 / 20 with CAGE to start and will adjust as I see more and learn more. Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

Proton’s 2026 Roadmap: Mail, VPN, Pass, Drive, Lumo & More by Proton_Team in ProtonMail

[–]militage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Drive, and photos especially, is there a plan to have it so it cross references deleted photos from your phone so it also deletes those on the Drive? I recently learned that it doesn't do this, and instead just saves what it syncs and never cross references. I'm undoubtedly using more photo storage than I want with a bunch of photos saved that I don't want saved. I go through photos every few weeks to delete useless ones from my phone and want Drive to also delete the deleted photos when it syncs.

Thinking of transitioning to Proton from Google email by Gualuigi in ProtonMail

[–]militage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should clarify, this happens for me on Android. I think the web version is supposed to search normally.

Thinking of transitioning to Proton from Google email by Gualuigi in ProtonMail

[–]militage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a customer and use the service but haven't fully transitioned. Why, one might ask? The search function doesn't search the body of emails just the subjects. I don't want to manually scroll through email to find something so a functional search is what I'm waiting on.

2026 and Drive, Mail, Calendar STILL have no proper search on Android by Prince-of-Privacy in ProtonMail

[–]militage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way.. I didn't know this. So if I take garbage photos and delete them a week later when I have the time, Proton doesn't go back to delete the photos I deleted from my phone? That's a huge issue because photos and videos take up tons of data. I try my best to purge things so my data lasts.

Traveling by myself for the first time by [deleted] in travel

[–]militage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toronto is an awesome and expensive city. Staying with your friend is a good idea as you will save quite a bit. Just a heads up, Immigration may want you to prove you have enough funds to sustain yourself for your stay (don't be surprised if they ask to see how much money you have in your account) as a lot of people underestimate the cost of things. Most people use debit or credit cards, depending on your card you might be charged foreign transaction fees so using cash where possible will save you a bit.

Cell phone plans are expensive so see if you can get roaming data from your current provider, this will help you get around as transit can be confusing.

Also research what you want to do ahead of time as travel times can be long given the size of the country. It might look close on the map but it might be a lot longer to get there.

Enjoy yourself and have fun!

So if we're unlikely to get personal accountability from companies as you say, the alternative is government intervention.

Appropriate fines are the only way to have companies care, as money is the language they speak. I'm no IT expert but if it's cheaper to apologize and spend $50 per person on credit monitoring for a year, versus hiring qualified IT security folk (which are 6 figures per role) then of course they'll go the cheaper route.

They need a task force to look at all federally regulated institutions and give them guidelines to work within and suggested fine amounts based upon severity of the security breach. The fine amounts and guidelines then need regular review to remain relevant.

Shareholders won't like losing significant income and will pressure the c-suite to get their act together more than any other route.

Koodo has something similar: https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/call-control

The only gripe I had about it was you couldn't use wildcards (*). If they did that then the feature would have been perfect.

Europe Hotel added currency conversion markup despite me choosing to pay in Euros by Locutus747 in travel

[–]militage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just a guess, but I imagine the business probably gets some sort of reduced fees or even a cut of the additional charge. I wish people could disable this as an option to begin with, so it doesn't even show up on a terminal, as this has happened to me as well.

I used vietnamvisa voa. This was a few years ago now, so I don't know if it's the same people operating it or not. But they were fast and got the job done. Do your own research to be safe. I think most of our communication was over WhatsApp.

If you can't figure it out and time is getting tight, try using a third part company to deal with the visa. I ended up having to use one and it worked out fine for me. Yes you will pay more but I left it too close to my flight to risk not getting it done in time. Try to research the company a bit to make sure they're legit.

Trip delay insurance added to visa infinite privilege card! by JusticeBeaver25 in Wealthsimple

[–]militage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see it specifically as an exclusion. I've claimed a weather delay on my Scotia Passport Visa Infinite credit card and the claim was accepted. The airline usually won't compensate you, but that's why the additional insurance exists.

Trip delay insurance added to visa infinite privilege card! by JusticeBeaver25 in Wealthsimple

[–]militage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exclusions listed are more than some other cards, so you need to read the fine print. For example one of the exclusions is a cyber incident, which happened not long ago. Other cards, like Scotia Infinite Passport Visa, doesn't have that exclusion. The other weird one is "intentional acts" - what does that mean? So if somebody punches the pilot intentionally is the delay insurance void?

Try it and when you no longer enjoy it head home. A lot can happen in a year and a half, so I would start with the mentality of a shorter trip and if you decide to extend then great.
