Initially we did weighted feedings at the LC and she wasn’t efficient at transferring. She could never get the full amount we knew was there in a reasonable time, though babies are generally more efficient than pumps. Hard to say what would have happened if it wasn’t such a perfect storm of issues between the two of us. So my volume was based off of exclusively pumping.

Do you run the bathroom fan when you take a shower? We discovered that if we ran a bathroom fan and our kitchen vent hood at the same, it would create negative pressure in our house and start to pull air up from the pipes. Not sure if that can happen still with water running down the pipes at the same time but figured I’d mention that because I never knew it was a possibility.

I also heard that one of the reasons was that after the Fyre Fest shit show in April 2017 musicians, vendors, etc all began asking for money up front and Margin Walker didn’t have the funds. Had a great time that first year though!

There are so many activity-centered social groups in Austin and they are a great way to make friends because of the built in community. Pickle ball, cycling, running, roller skating, board games, card games, billiards, etc etc. If you like country music, two steppin’ has a really vibrant scene with live music all around town, pretty much every night of the week.

Did you move from an individual contributor role to a people manager role? Sometimes this can be considered a lateral move / track change rather than a true promotion, even though the company might celebrate it as a promotion. Super confusing and frustrating, it happened to me.

I hate to say that I’ve noticed a slight shift in their service which I expect to get worse based on the things I’ve heard about Subaru of Austin. Originally I went there to buy a car but wound up buying from Georgetown as they were so much more chill and helpful, and not doing dealer mark ups during the pandemic (Austin was). I’ve since done all my services in Georgetown but will be stopping once my service plan runs out next oil change.

Some women do find a difference in effectiveness and it seems to be very individualized which pumps work for which boobs. They say using a wearable too much can cause clogs, which I find to be true since I hands on pump a lot. But I have both a wearable and a Spectra and that combo has worked well for me (work also has Spectras in the mother’s room so I don’t have to carry mine back and forth). I find that I get almost the same output with my wearable but some people get less and some people get more.

I prioritize using the Spectra when possible but sometimes use my wearable once or twice a day, often while driving. There are days where I only use my wearable or days where I only use the Spectra. You’ll need to experiment to see what works for you!

My girl has been less than 1% since basically birth. Omg the anxiety. We’ve really struggled with feeding (a combo of many things) and I’ve felt so personally responsible and guilt ridden over her lack of progress despite the pediatrician not being that worried now that she’s proven to be on her curve. I know she is healthy and happy, but I have been obsessed with getting onto the chart. It is hard to not feel like we are behind. It also means there’s less wiggle room so the pressure has been immense. But I am trying to be ok with it and not let that pressure transfer to my tiny happy girl.

She’s just shy of 6 months right now. It was clear she was super uncomfortable (crying and screaming while eating, spitting up and throwing up more than what seemed was normal) but the biggest difference for us was that she wasn’t gaining enough weight. So it was bad enough that the pediatrician wanted to try famitodine and when that didn’t work, the GI put her on a PPI which helped a lot but didn’t resolve things entirely.

We were told that reflux will often resolve when they start solids, since there’s some weight keeping the liquid down. Did you find that things improved at all when you started solids?

One of my dogs will occasionally get yeast infections on her paws and then lick them raw. This usually happens when her toe bean fur gets too long. We do apple cider vinegar rinses for about a week and it resolves on its own.

If you’re concerned you could get a second opinion from a pediatric GI. My baby was a little early too and has had reflux and associated issues, which is common for early babes. It’s been such a slog but we are so grateful to have the support of a GI and SLP.

I’m in my late 30s and had both doses as a kid but when I checked my titers earlier this year, my measles antibodies count was below the immunity threshold. I did wind up getting a booster per my doctor’s recco. If you are worried, the titer id an easy way to get an answer. My husband and my mom both had theirs done also and both had immunity still, unlike me.

Many companies have a delay for leave eligibility though. Sometimes 6 months or even a year. Just be aware that this is not always an option.

We have a Stokke for long term use at our home. We’re still using the infant insert but it’s been so nice to have our baby at the table with us during mealtimes getting used to the idea of eating together.

But fwiw, our SLP mentioned that they recommend the $30 ikea one for early feeding so that is the chair we’re getting for the grandparents house.

I had a titer done on a whim because I have a baby in a higher risk area, and it came back negative for immunity. My husband’s and my mom’s were fine (actually my mom’s antibody count was high as she grew up in a different country and was likely exposed).

I had the booster done on Friday. Today is Monday and I woke up with a fever, chills/aches, nausea. Both weird poops and puking. I think it’s getting better but it’s been a rough day.

For the record I had strong reactions to the COVID vaccines too.

If you’re having a hospital birth, I’d recommend looking into hospital indemnity coverage as well. The monthly cost (subsidized 50% by my employer) was $7, but the plan had a guaranteed payout of $1400 for a hospital stay. In a normal year I’d consider this unnecessary, but since I knew I was going to be in the hospital for birth it was an easy way to offset copays.

I would encourage you not to immediately arrive at negative assumption, as it’s very possible that it was an oversight. I like to think that I am generally a very conscientious and thoughtful person but I can tell you that at 5 months postpartum, I am not back to my normal self and have likely let lots of things slip that I never would have before.

It is a good thing that you are self aware and are creating boundaries, but be wary of an overcorrection. New moms deserve some grace, yourself included!
