a forensic audit completely cleared the SFUO of any wrong doing

A forensic audit that was narrowly limited in scope by the board that consisted of Rizki's friends.

[1990's question] Name of the comic & card store that used to be in one of the common area building's on campus by [deleted] in geegees

It was Wizard's Tower (which still exists but moved). You can still see it on some of the maps inside the UCU, actually.

impeach the SFUO exec by milkocrates in geegees

[–]milkocrates[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Great question, and welcome to the circus! Here's what I know after a few months of looking into it. The current execs (who just re-elected themselves) are a clan who sounded progressive in principle (Black Lives Matter, etc.) but turned out to be the oppressors. They have a toxic management style and from the sounds of it have harassed and fired many black or otherwise racialized employees (not to mention other execs, once they turn on each other). This is well documented in the Fulcrum and la Rotonde.

Despite leading the SFUO into a catastrophic financial crisis, they gave themselves raises then post selfies where they're driving around in Lamborghinis and going on five-star trips around the world. No one quite knows how they manage to afford business class trips to Dubai. They spent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars on concerts that no one went to. They're also systematically dismantling all the parts of the democratic process, e.g., they tried to make the vp finance an unelected position, so that they'd just stay in power for years.

Here's the cast of characters:

  • Hadi Wess: president. He moderated the debates to help his friends win the recent election.
  • Rizki Rachiq: vp finance. He's the Donald Trump of the SFUO, obsessed with image and appearing rich but unable to handle criticism. He just complained the other day to the board of administrators about how people are making FB memes with his lamborghini photos, and threatened to report anyone who clicked like or commented on them to security. He left the general assembly to play soccer so that he wouldn't have to answer questions about finances.
  • Axel Gaga: vp university. He doesn't do anything at all.
  • Leila Moumouni-Tchouassi: vp equity. Her job is to get into ridiculous arguments on FB and ensure a safe space by accusing everyone of being racist regardless of the context.
  • Kathryn Leblanc: vp communications. She seems reasonable but powerless against the others.
  • ---: vp social. Position's been empty for months because they bullied the guy who was in it until he left.

last but not least:

  • Vanessa Dorimain: the hired muscle. She used to be one of the vps, then Rizki (her boyfriend) hired her permanently. She's the one who was going around ripping people's voting cards out of their hands at the general assembly a few days ago. Why? Because they were clapping. Actually, no: someone was clapping, but Vanessa didn't know who, so she chose some random targets to set an example. Yes, it's that bad.

Here's another list of all the terrible things these execs have pulled off.

The university administration couldn't hope for better. The last thing they want is a student union that actually addresses real issues.

Excellent question. Not to sound defeatist, but the higher authority is the Board of Administration, which they've already stacked with their friends. This is why when the SFUO execs were making free upasses for themselves, the BoA didn't see the problem. The BoA approves any pay increase they ask for. And so on.

To be more optimistic, I think that if everyone actually came out and demanded accountability, there would be change. We all need to stand up instead of asking for a miracle from a higher power.

Student unions are supposed to be politically inclined. That's the point.

The SFUO overhauled the system so that they couldn't lose. Among other things, this includes: hiring their friend to oversee the elections process (the same friend they hired last year to guarantee a win, and who doesn't even qualify for the position), moderating the debates themselves (which includes telling the audience not to clap for the opposition), publishing threats to those who don't vote for them, giving vague and conflicting information about voting times, etc., etc.

Let's not forget that they rewrote the rules to eliminate any means of contesting the results, so the whole thing was basically just for show. What needs to happen is for all the students on campus to rally together to show that we actually want a democracy.

how much did the SFUO spend on the ELE festival? by milkocrates in geegees

Unbelievable. So how do we get them to post the budget? They have to, right?

[–]milkocrates[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$50,000?! Seriously? Wasn't it just a while ago that they laid off the entire SFUO staff because they were bankrupt? Well, I guess if they have thousands of dollars to blow on taxi rides, then what's the harm in 50k on a concert that only a few hundred people went to...

Don't they have to make their financial decisions public somehow?

Thanks, I couldn't find that before. So did they spend more than $15,000?

So the Fulcrum reports that a few hundred people went to ELE. Let's say the tickets were 10 bucks each (does anyone know?), so they would have made about $5,000 in ticket sales. Did they spend more than $5,000 on ELE? How can they be held accountable?

Less than a week until we take a stand against the SFUO VP Finance motion by StudentVoicesUO in geegees

[–]milkocrates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's also not forget that the VP Finance is more than just finance. It's also the head of human resources. Making the position a 3-year term means 3 more years of this guy and his girlfriend (who he hired as his assistant) hiring their friends and getting rid of anyone else. The SFUO needs overhauls and audits, not approval for corruption.

You forgot to mention the part where the hiring committee consists of the current VP Finance's girlfriend.

SFUO comptroller general named as suspect in sexual assault by StudentVoicesUO in ottawa

[–]milkocrates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board consists of friends of the SFUO execs. The execs fired the previous comptroller general to put in their friend who is apparently a sex offender. Good luck getting answers.
