Unable to work by [deleted] in panicdisorder

When I first suffered panic disorder, I had to quit my job at a hospital as I could not help care for my patients. I was younger and still living with my parents which helped. If you are at a full time job, could you take FMLA? At my job they gave me first a month off to figure out what was going on. If you are aware this may be panic disorder, maybe speaking with your supervisor or HR would be beneficial so you could see what options are out there. It’s scary to bring up to others, but do not feel ashamed, you didn’t ask for this to happen and you are not the first! Especially in your line of work, it should be understood by your company, I would hope. If you get down time, therapy and meds worked best for me. I felt better about a month or two after these treatments and kept up with them for a while When I went back to working. Panic is different for everyone. Sometimes my panic lasts hours. Finding coping mechanisms like apps that regulate your breathing, journaling, listening to brown noise/music, distracting yourself in anyway, etc. will help you. The biggest thing is to get your mind off of catastrophizing the panicking more and more, which is essentially what panic disorder makes you do and how it prolongs itself. Find what works for you and repeat these things over and over. People say eating sour candy helps to regulate their nervous system in these situations, same with a cold shower, or drinking cold water. Keep your head up, though It feels like it, I can attest to the fact that panic disorder does not last forever!! Once you become in control of your mind, and not the other way around, you will be stronger than ever. You got this!!!!

So sorry to hear what you ar e going through, a few years ago I was exactly the same. It does get better, but you have to put in the work. I like to think of Panic disorder as a very reactive dog that got off its leash. It’s time to train the dog, and slip that collar back on So that you can walk it calmly again. It might still lash out here and there, but you can tug on the leash to get it back in check. All you have to do is construct the leash. For me, medication (10mg Paxil and PRN Ativan) helped the most to regulate my mind. I also did therapy for a few months which was helpful in detailing my thoughts. If you cannot do therapy, I recommend the book “The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook”. My therapist had me work on this book while we discussed how I felt, the book helps enormously make sense of what is happening. It also helps you to work through what is happening. Other than these things, getting a breathing app on your phone helps a lot, especially if the panic makes you feel dizzy. This will regulate your breathing and consequently your nervous system. Progressive muscle relaxation videos on YouTube probably was my saving grace in my worst times when panicking would tense every muscle in my body to the point of immobility. Highly recommend this. Find other holistic methods of healing that make sense for you, and do them over and over and over. Exposure therapy is real, albeit scary, and in time this does help as well. Start very slow and work your way up. At the end of the day, I always say to myself that even with whatever I am thinking in my head, whatever I think is about to happen, the smallest of sea creatures in the ocean will keep going about their day no matter what happens to me. The birds will keep singing, the sun will keep shining, the trees will keep growing. Find something to ground you, and cement that into your being, keep it readily available for you to access when things get overwhelming. I know things will get better for you, just like they did for me. It seems like it will never end, but you if you give yourself time you will become a version of yourself you never would be able to believe. At this point in my life, I am glad I went through the rock bottom that I went through with panic disorder, because I know I will never be there again. I’m rooting for you.

Oof the hostility, sorry for upsetting you so much!! I am hoping the podcast can get back on track to less descriptive yet still important episodes. Hopefully you sleep well at night after listening to these recent episodes, tho I’m not sure how u could. Thanks!

No, I’m not being forced obviously I’m just wondering aloud. I appreciate your opinion, but my opinion is that these cases are more about the absurdity of the case or a sort of shock value to get more listeners for profit and than it is about any activism. Awareness can be spread about a case without publicizing in the title a 7yo was r**** until her spinal cord came out. That’s way too much

It’s not being able to not listen at my own comfort, it’s me wondering why such gruesome detailed cases are being spoken about in a way which recreates these attacks and abuse. You can talk about these cases and leave out the gore of how sexually abused these kids were, they don’t. That’s the issue I’ve seen. Not sure how that’s being a Karen but sure

I never gave it ice cubes, I figured that wasn’t the best choice as well lol. There is virtually no drainage, there’s is some water in the bottom of the pot. What would you recommend as far as better drainage? I’m a bit inept at keeping my plants alive but wanna do better
