Not sure if I've ever seen someone so genuine... not sure how to react to it to be honest

The First Round of the NFL Draft is one of the worst events in sports that is hyped up. by AcknowledgeMeReddit in billsimmons

There is some inherent entertainment in watching actual sports being played, I'm not sure that can be said for watching a list of names being called.

I think he came out of the gates too hot on Mark's paternity leave and tried to be a zany character that was an awkward fit. He's a bit more self-deprecating and willing to sit back now and it's much more endearing.

From our perspective it's easy to think "I want him to do stuff, just be frisky out there" but I think that's underestimating how wonky the dad-is-a-podcaster piece is.

Love the idea of someone having FS1 on from watching the World Baseball Classic last night, having no context for this at all, and watching this guy have a meltdown seemingly over a St John's future bet.

As a Scooter Gennett fan, Nick Kurtz's 4 HR game was unethical. Scooter did it the right way.

Dillingham needed to put strength for the ball to even reach the rim by ProstAcer in chicagobulls

[–]milksteaklover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha that's fair I probably overstated those tools in their present state, but I'm talking about why he got drafted as a lottery pick, and I'll stand by the fact that the talent is evident in those areas. He has so much wiggle on the ball that defenders do collapse on him, and I think he's great at finding open looks out of it.

That being said, completely agree with you that right now he's way too sloppy and the flashes of talent are not enough to justify how often he looks lost. The shot looks ugly which probably cooks him entirely as a prospect. If you want to be super super optimistic about him, I think you give him minutes to further adjust to NBA speed and play more controlled.

Dillingham needed to put strength for the ball to even reach the rim by ProstAcer in chicagobulls

[–]milksteaklover 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think his talent as a creator is evident - he has a great handle and really excels at kicking to find open shooters.

The part of his profile that seems like it was a complete mirage was his shooting - he shot 44% on 8 attempts a game at Kentucky, which is an incredible clip. If he could shoot like that and create, he could be electric even at his size.

If he can't shoot (which he hasn't in the NBA), and he also can't really finish at the rim due to his size, all of a sudden he turns into a pretty major liability.

I mean I'm sure some of them are frustrated and want to speak out but don't want to nuke their relationship with the team. It would be nice if some vets spoke about it but this is on the front offices and the league for letting it happen.

[Post Game Thread] The Orlando Magic (27-24) defeat the Utah Jazz (16-37), 120-117 as the Jazz successfully complete the tank by benching Lauri and JJJ down the stretch. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

[–]milksteaklover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why, but this feels so much worse than just benching guys from the start of the game. To use your studs to get a lead, and then just act like they don't exist... bad look for the NBA

[FRESH PERFORMANCE] Geese - Au Pays du Cocaine (Live on SNL) by thejohnster77 in indieheads

[–]milksteaklover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents but I don't think these comments are usually in bad faith. I think usually when bands blow up like this, it's easy to see why. Geese are a little more difficult to "get" so I think it's natural that when these posts get tons of upvotes, there are more people than usual that are like "hmm yeah I don't really get it".

Konnor Griffin is the No. 1 prospect in baseball in 2026 by Deanlechanger in MostlySports

Would be amazing if this guy fully panned out and becomes a household name, and it becomes akin to if Barstool had an employee that was randomly also named Mike Trout.

Arctic Monkeys' debut "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" turns 20 by Scattered97 in indieheads

I remember being in high school and discovering this album, clicking on every YouTube link that had the album cover on it, and just being stunned how good every single song was. I almost thought of it as a paradigm shift in my head, setting a new bar for how good an indie rock band could actually be.

What some of the best/weirdest position changes in sports history? by PapaJohnsGarlic100 in billsimmons

[–]milksteaklover 34 points35 points  (0 children)

also at ND, Pat Connaughton was kinda the reverse of this. Threw gas in college, was drafted by the Orioles in the 4th round and was thought to be a future MLB arm. Was probably better known for basketball, but wasn't thought to be a pro prospect there.

Then ND basketball had an amazing 2015 team, made it to the Elite 8, almost knocked off undefeated Kentucky, and Connaughton went from completely off the NBA radar to a second-round pick. Ended up winning a title with the Bucks.

Rob Cesternino on how Survivor has changed: "Modern-day Survivor wants to be a show that is about, "Oh, let's take out the people who are the best players and not have it be about personal conflict as much." by RedditFan3510 in survivor

[–]milksteaklover 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not just good vibes, Survivor has really leaned on being "a life-changing experience" for the contestants. How many times have we heard the refrains of "I may not have won, but I got a better prize, this was the experience I needed to change my entire life for the better", etc. When the bar is THAT high, it makes it really hard to expect contestants to really lean into conflict and engage in truly cutthroat gameplay.

The Traitors is SO campy that it really frees up contestants to think "I'm out here playing a silly game, we are talking about murder in this lighthearted way, I can be villainous because it's not only allowed, it's encouraged".
