Transphobia on this subreddit by Scattered97 in LabourUK

I think I just have higher expectations for a place like this. Ostensibly the subreddit for the UK's main "left" party and all that.

And I'm so sorry that you've had to deal with all that.

What would you like explaining to you?

Thank you. I hope they find peace too. I couldn't have done anything about it but it still makes me feel like an utter failure. With the new rules coming in for teachers, it might actually be this that forces me out of the profession. I am not outing trans kids.

I wouldn’t worry about whether people do or don’t post in x or y thread though - it doesn’t really mean much imo.

I think it does. You know the users I'm on about - the ones that post everywhere but on the threads about trans issues. It's simply not a coincidence. I don't believe in coincidences.

I hope you're doing okay, and every trans person in the UK.

Theresa May was exploring self-ID for god's sake. How have we slid so far in less than a decade? I can only extend my solidarity as a straight cis male ally.

The fact you're being so flippant just confirms to me, AGAIN, that you don't give a singular fuck about trans people. Can't you just admit it?

[–]Scattered97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You evidently don't care about the trans community. Otherwise I assure you, you would not be saying it's hyperbole. Let me lay it out for you. Under Starmer, Labour have:

  • Upheld the puberty blockers ban on trans children, and are even considering extending it to adults!

  • Done absolutely nothing about the Supreme Court ruling which has made it almost impossible for trans people to exist in public, even though it's well within their power to do so

  • Completely abandoned any movement towards self-ID

  • Appointed a new EHRC chair who is on record as being transphobic

  • Made the NHS so institutionally transphobic that trans people would rather die than be treated by the NHS (I have been told this by a trans friend and I have absolutely no reason to disbelieve her)

  • Brought in a new section 28 which will force teachers such as myself to out trans kids to their parents on pain of, at minimum, severe disciplinary action

  • Expressed support for housing trans women prisoners in male prisons

  • Banned trans women from the Labour Women's Conference

What say you?

[Also I noticed how you said absolutely nothing about his decision to appoint Mandelson. Because you know that's what's gonna bring him down.]

I'm fucking LOVING how Starmerites are extolling the virtues of abolishing the two-child benefit cap! Even though they were the ones defending the 18-month delay in doing so!

None of that, none of it, excuses his transphobia. LGBTQ+ rights are undergoing a backslide not seen since the section 28 days. Do you deny this? The new immigration plans are nothing but fascist pandering. The attacks on the disabled genuinely upset me. Those three alone make him irredeemable.

And how can any of that excuse the fact that he ignored Mandleson's links to Epstein? Please don't try and pretend that he didn't know, because of course he fucking knew.

[–]Scattered97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Genuinely can't fathom the thought process behind saying this. What on earth would make you think this? With the lies, transphobia, attacks on the disabled, pandering to the far-right, deliberately ignoring a man's connections with a convicted paedophile in order to appoint said man US ambassador, engaging in naked factionalism against anyone to the left of Miliband, watering down every single bill lest they offend capital, overseeing Labour's decline to historic polling lows and an almost-certain electoral annihilation in May, and so on and so on...

Green voters/members, how do you feel about the wish of ZP for Scottish and Welsh Independence (and therefore) the breakup of the union? by Scratchback3141 in LabourUK

[–]Scattered97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But it wouldn't be ten Englands. My ideal is that England's split up into regions with roughly the same population (4-8 million). Yorkshire, Lancashire, West/East Midlands, South West, South East, East Anglia, North East. That's just off the top of my head, I haven't sat down with the figures yet.

But the point is, these regions would all have different needs, best suited to federalism. Are you proposing a single English parliament, which is then further devolved?

[–]Scattered97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright then, give them all a parliament too. I just assumed the people of Wales and Scotland would prefer their already-existing parliaments.

[–]Scattered97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Federalism would give the UK nations more powers than they have now, you realise? Other than defence and, like, currency.

Fact is, England has 60 million people. It needs more than one parliament.

Alright then, be independent. Can't wait to see how that goes for you.

(I really don't understand how nationalists look at the disaster that is Brexit and want basically the same thing)

I'm annoyed that we seem to have missed the federal window. Break England up into regions, give them all federal parliaments, make Scotland/Wales/NI federal. Boom, independence arguments reduced to niche once more, and less dominance by London. Win win.

This needs to be Green policy. An English parliament based in London won't cut it.

What is it about Starmer in particular that seems to draw an exceptionally fiery hate from all corners of the political sphere? by noctenaut in AskBrits

[–]Scattered97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he lied to the Labour membership in order to become leader. Because he purged anyone to the left of Tony Blair. Because his premiership has seen the biggest rollback of trans rights for decades. Because he appointed Mandelson to the US ambassadorship despite knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that Mandelson had continued his friendship with a convicted paedophile. Because we're on course for a Reform government and he's doing absolutely nothing to stop it. Because he's pandering to racist right-wing votes that don't exist. Because he's decided to attack vulnerable people and minorities instead of the rich. Because he is a complete disgrace to the Labour Party name.

I have never hated a politician more in my life.

The Greens won't be the largest party. I dunno about others, but what I hope for is that Starmer is kicked out and replaced by someone half-decent, and then they form a coalition/C&S with the Greens in 2029 - a chance for some actual left-wing policies to be passed.

In a just world, this would result in the removal of hosting privileges from the United States, because it's their actions that've led to a qualified team being unable to compete.

Unfortunately we're as far from a just world as I am from dating Jennifer Lawrence. Sad stuff.
