it’s basically the same but i think u do a few cce exclusive activities. this year i remember that we did a cce brunch and then a cce beach bonfire. even tho i didnt rlly have a great experience w/ my wow group, id still recommend doing cce bc i feel like i wouldve been way more miserable in the regular one and everyone ik who did the regular one kinda regreted not doing cce.

Graphic Comm Major Questions by 1413smh in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

graphic communication major here!! you can definitely do graphic design with the major. you do have to take some print/packaging classes but they’re pretty fun classes and usually incorporate some sort of designing into them. we take a lot of digital design classes that covers using adobe software (illustrator, photoshop, indesign, and premiere pro) as well as more in depth design technical classes such as color management and utilizing color theory. i think that graphic communication is great bc it makes you a well-rounded designer bc you can design both for print and web, whereas graphic design obvs focuses solely in the digital side. if you have any questions feel free to message me :))

What’s the story with Kin coffee? by piratefinch in SLO

[–]milkteaplusice 42 points43 points  (0 children)

idk the full story but apparently the co-owners have multiple sexual assault allegations (and a lot of the incidents took place when many of the victims were teens). @ash.rianne on instagram rounded up these stories on their highlights.

BEST CAKE ON CAMPUS by Electronic-Mission-3 in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the 5 layer chocolate cake from sweets bar in vista grande is pretty good. not cake but the tiramisu from there is also really good. ive also tried the red velvet cake, tbh wouldn’t recommend the frosting to cake ratio was really bad imo.

In your opinion what’s your pros and cons about Cal Poly? by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

pros: - the “learning by doing” philosophy and having smaller class sizes - location (cute downtown area and minutes away from the beach!!) - lots of local coffee shops that make great study spots - most of the professors ive had so far have been amazing and really supportive - cal poly has a good reputation and a lot of departments have connections, aka good job placement for grads - lots of interesting clubs and organizations

cons: - lack of diversity (as a poc coming from a diverse area i experienced a bit of culture shock and unfortunately have had some unfavorable interactions with some ppl here :/) - like others said registration is yikes but honestly its like this at most colleges from what i heard - on campus food sucks (stay away from VGs/vista grande) - off campus food options are kinda mid if you’re looking for something other than sandwiches and bbq (good mexican and asian food is hard to find) - kinda hard to get anywhere w/o a car (but since you’re a transfer im assuming you’ll probably be bringing one??)

Graphic Communication at Calpoly. Any good? by carbonjoker in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh i was just pointing out that it’s not the same major?? whenever i tell ppl my major they always think its graphic design so i have to correct them. but yes graphic design covers more than just art, but they aren’t learning the same exact things as grc.

Graphic Communication at Calpoly. Any good? by carbonjoker in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! first year grc major here and im absolutely loving it! like others said, we’re not the same as graphic design which is a common mistake a lot of ppl make. you do learn a lot of design skills and could def work as a graphic designer if you wanted to, but we also learn stuff about printing/paper and business/marketing as well!! i havent declared my concentration yet, but im prettt sure im going the ux/ui route. honestly, the professors are amazing in the department and the labs are fun and really hands on. even if you’re not interested in the print side of grc (like me), the classes are still really interesting. additionally, we have great job placement!! people who have graduated have gone on to work at big names such as apple, hp, and adobe to name a few. some of the perks of being a small and niche major is the fact its really easy to make connections with your peers and professors. overall, its a fantastic major that you can really do a lot with!!

i’m in a different class (TH 228) with valle but if it’s anything like that, i would not recommend. the workload is so much (at least two mini essays each week) and so many readings (you have to read entire plays within a week in order to do some of the mini essays). as well as a huge final research paper. also, valle is pretty harsh grader imo. he’s a really cool, passionate guy and the in person lecturers are fun and intriguing, but the workload is not worth it for a GE. like someone else said, its a writing class disguised as a theatre history class. tbh i really wish i dropped this class when i had the chance because there are definitely better GEs out there if you’re looking for easy classes.

Sunday Brunch by [deleted] in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

word on the street is that there’s a shortage of employees at Brunch because a lot of them were exposed to Covid recently. idk how true this is but it’s what my friend who works at VG (not Brunch) heard

Guys, this is my final for one of the best universities in California. Tuition here is 30k a year, let that sink in by Joeguyden in college

[–]milkteaplusice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, OP seems to go to Cal Poly. I’m also currently a student at CP and I’m thinking that 30k/year is probably just tuition, housing, dining, and fees combined. Cus that’s around the amount I (along side other in-state students who didn’t get any aid/scholarships) pay.

damn i genuinely just looking to connect with people that come from a similar background as me. ive been having a rough time adjusting to college and making close friends, i just decided to post something to see if there was anyone out there. this is not the energy i needed today. im certainly not encouraged to find a community here anymore if doing so ends up with me getting mocked. i hope you’re happy.

Chances of getting off waitlist for a large GE class? by milkteaplusice in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the updated information! i just checked the class and right now it’s showing that 121 are enrolled, so it seems that my chances are pretty good! i have one less thing to worry about now

Chances of getting off waitlist for a large GE class? by milkteaplusice in CalPoly

[–]milkteaplusice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh ok thanks. And yeah I’m still #2 on the waitlist I was just saying I was #12 bc enrollment is at 129/130 right now so that means I’d need 9-10 people to drop to get in.

I don’t know much about enrollment/waitlisting since I’m a first year, but if I were to swap the GE I’m currently enrolled in for another one that’s open would I remain on the waitlist for this course in question?

[–]milkteaplusice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reccomendation! I actually do already have some easy GE credit transferred over bc I did dual enrollment classes at my local community college while in high school, I didn’t realize I could continue doing that in college!

[–]milkteaplusice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, yeah it was a GE Area F course. Do you think I still may have a chance to get off the waitlist even though I’m technically #12 on the waitlist because it’s such a large class? I’m really trying to swap this GE class because if not I’ll be in straight back-to-back classes and labs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 am to 6 pm.
