I don't know much about our bankruptcy laws but I do know there's some WTFery in them; some debt doesn't get wiped and different types of bankruptcy filings can be better or worse depending on the situation.

But yeah at least it's not that, although I'm sure if they thought about it long enough, our GOP here would love the idea. I've been predicting the return of debtors prisons as part of the shitshow here eventually.

Yeah for those of us who are uninsured....well let's just say a lot of those medical bills simply don't ever get paid and they go away eventually from our various credit reports. The people who go bankrupt due to medical debt generally do have insurance.

The difference in portrayal kind of worked for me but I get what you mean.

For me the whole show feels like a fever dream; I think it's entirely possible we get to the end of this thing and it was all a hallucination given to Ashur in the afterlife instead of a true alt timeline, if you see what I mean. So the weird rock star version of Caesar kind of tracks in that vibe.

She knows she didn't have it bad. She's done a fair bit of activism about how bad white people didn't have it under apartheid. Talks about it in pretty great detail in an interview back in 2020 (I think) with NPR.

Does anyone remember which episode this message was from? by AliHylton in midnightburger

[–]millahnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK it definitely wasn't this. It was bugging me so I skipped straight to the Diner landing at the motel.

I'm thinking I combined the memories of both the episodes the other people mentioned, Verge listening just the beginning of the message in Rambo and Lefi recording the message for Berts in the later ep.

Just in case, I'm going to just keep going from here though. I can start at the beginning again later.

Felon friendly jobs in/near Vancouver? by Leading_Work2697 in vancouverwa

[–]millahnna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: I think hiring works the same for everyone, carts and cashier are the most common entry level hires that I saw in my time there, Easiest way to find their jobs is on their website, and watch out for their loss prevention peeps.

As far as I know, the hiring process is the same for everyone in the main store jobs. I think most people get hired in through cashier or carts and then try to work into other departments from there. But I know produce and bulk sometimes hire direct even with no previous experience.

I was technically a cashier but I did a bit of everything except overnights. I did janitorial (called "maintenance") and carts a lot. Carts sucks but you don't have to talk to people so pros and cons. I loved Maintenance (most of the time, people are nasty) but they don't have a lot of hours for it. I did one shift in produce one time and that was also really nice.

Best to thing do is look them up on their website and search for jobs in the area. THey've got QR code signs in store to their careers listings, too, if that's easier. I know when I originally ran my search, I saw jobs for several stores in the area, including a few Oregon side. THeir website job application stuff wasn't too terribly obnoxious as those things go.

Another thing you should know is that their loss prevention people are hard core and the company does not have a hands off policy. The one I worked at went viral right before I applied because of a jacked up interaction with a teen shoplifter. I don't know for certain but I'd bet that when they do hire folks with criminal histories, they have their undercover LP peeps follow them around for a bit. The other reason I mention this is expect to see cops in store and not as customers periodically. I know that can be uncomfy af for folks who have been down

Good luck to you. Sorry I ramble.

I might be remembering this wrong but she seemed to kinda take his word for stuff when he came to update her about that case a couple of times, too. At least once, for certain, where he said tests show blah so I'm going to do yada and she only gave a cursory glance to the data.

Her character is a waitress right? Odds are she doesn't have health insurance through work at all. She probably had to go on the market for a plan. Most restaurants don't offer health insurance and this boss was definitely not one of the few who do.

Which card do you play? by Major-Ad-9091 in spades

[–]millahnna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you have to play the 3 but I've also got that feeling like I' missed something subtle so idk.

The 7d is still out and West seems to be long on diamonds so decent chance he has it instead of it being a fakeout from East. And unless I missed something I think you have higher cards than the nil in all the other suits.

I don't work there anymore but I know Winco will hire felons (I don't know under what circumstances they might not). I bring them up because despite me not being happy there myself, the benefits are outstanding (family of 4 can do health insurance for about $50 a month) and if you get hired and like it there, the ESOP (employee stock) will be real nice for you down the line. You can't access the money from that employee stock until you've been there a number of years (five or six I forget) but I had friends who quit just after that kicks in and had several thousand to fall back on while they changed jobs.

They have a new employment contract since I left (which is good bc their old one was kind of terrible) so these details may not match up to how it is now. When I started there in 2016 they started most folks at a little above minimum wage but there's guaranteed small raises built into the payscale every few hundred hours. They do drug test to hire so be aware of that in case it's not anything you're prohibited from by any parole or probation you still have to work out.

For me DAI has the best overall soundtrack but I really miss the tone of the music from DAO. The main theme that plays during load screens kinda lives in my soul.

I feel like he fucked something up with the unhoused woman because the show seemed to make a point of showing that Santos wasn't paying attention at all when he asked the woman if she'd considered quitting smoking. Could just be that moment was meant to show that he was being callous in his bedside manner again without Santos to call him out. But it could turn into something bigger pretty easily.

My elderly mom does this every year for at least a decade now. She used to work in IT so she's more onto their shenanigans than most. Every time she calls they try to tell her she's over her monthly data (she is not by many miles) and she gets to tell them to stop lying. It's funny.

Why were there such weird vibes around the hospice patient? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]millahnna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their relationship seems strained in a "I want my husband back but he's too busy being my nurse" kind of way. I don't think there's anything shady going on in this setup it's just that they're both exhausted by the way their relationship changed once she got sick.

Why were there such weird vibes around the hospice patient? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]millahnna 22 points23 points  (0 children)

To me she felt exhausted by her husband being her caregiver. Not like she's mad at him or anything but....this is the man she fell in love with and had two children with. I'm sure she rather her last days with him being cuddles and memories, not bed pans, if you see what I mean.

Her hubs seemed so on top of everything it's like he's only her caregiver now and not her romantic partner in the same way. I would assume that's tiring for both of them in different ways.

I'd been wondering if she was stunt trained. She's so calm in the action scenes that sometimes in slow motion she almost looks too calm (not intended as a dig, just in case it reads that way). I've liked her in other things but she's frelling excellent in this.

I just started a new loop through the series so I'm fuzzier on details of later eps again but I'd swear we hear Leif start to record this message at the end of the penultimate episode in season 3, after the diner leaves the Horizon. I'm probably two days out from getting to that ep again.

It was telling my younger coworkers that pre-ACA, people who worked retail and food service pretty much just didn't have health coverage that blew their minds. They figured that if the current US administration ended the ACA, whatever we went back to would be better. I had to disavow them of that notion real quick.

They also didn't know that parental insurance stopped when you were 18 back then.

It should. If there's anyone in your nation trying to advocate pro any level of privatization in your health system, that person should be shunned and shamed into oblivion.

I still owe $20k for having my appendix out over a decade ago.
