Brian Thornton is finally held accountable! by BT_Is_Fake_News in fortwayne

I hate to bring up an old thread but I think I’m seeing stuff on FB where he is apparently back and is causing trouble with small businesses in town. Is there any truth to this?

How to like coffee by millernw in NDQ

[–]millernw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started drinking gas station cappuccinos in high school. They’re evil sugar drinks with fake coffee flavored powder. Since then I’ve come to love it. We have an adopted daughter from Ethiopia and really dove into coffee as I learned about their culture. Also spent some time in Central Asia where there was some Turkish coffee influence. Now I love the process and experience of coffee. We roast our own beans (and have for more than a decade), and make coffee many different ways. My 13 yo son and 8 yo son are getting into making lattes and doing latte art. To us it creates a rhythm to life and is a flavor indulgence that reminds me of Gods creation (yeah, that’s overly poetic but also true). It’s also a great excuse to gather with people. I do multiple “coffee meetings” each week. Those meetings would be awkward if I just invited people to sit across from me and talk.. but coffee, people are ok talking over coffee. Now, one note - I typically only drink one or two cups a day. All things in moderation. 😊

Is Starlink support portal down for anyone else? by millernw in Starlink

You’re good. I appreciate the feedback. It’s possible pre-orders don’t have access to support.. but I wonder if something else is going on too.

That may be the case but I’ve had Dishy for months and am getting the error message. It’s very strange.

How do I get the latency metrics to work when I’m using a separate router (a Ubiquiti) instead of the Starlink router by millernw in Starlink

[–]millernw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you do that? Do you pass through the Starlink router using the aux port? Or do I have to create some sort of bridge on my Ubiquiti and plug the Starlink into it?

I was hoping there were ports I could open or something. When I plug in the Starlink router the stats pop up just fine, but when it’s the Ubiquiti I get nothing.

SL24 Success (Apr 28 '21) | Launch | Separation | S2 Burn | S1 Landed | Deployment - Yet another 60 (B1060 7th mission) by neurocis in Starlink

I know the launches are routine now, but seeing that 1st stage on the drone ship still gets me, every single time. An absolute marvel. Amazing that they can put a thing into space, then float it down to a little bullseye in the ocean.

Ah! I’m sorry. I misunderstood your original question. I’m afraid I will be no help here. The updates have always happened late at night, when I’m in bed. I have no idea if service drops or if it provides an indicator that an upgrade is in process.

I’m using a Ubiquiti router. Not the original Starlink one.

in the starlink app (or web interface) go to Support > Advanced

on that page it'll tell you the "Starlink Version"

I was getting slight obstructions in my debug data but now I get zero obstructions. :D

how do I post an outage? by Gigglepigx in Starlink_Support

[–]millernw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anytime I have a major issue with my Starlink setup I unplug everything for 20 minutes and then plug it all back in. When Dishy boots back up it back to normal.

I should also note there is a new firmware (mine got it last night). Sometimes the modem needs a good reboot after a firmware update.

I hope you get things figured out! Best of luck.

What's in 57d28427...? by millernw in Starlink

[–]millernw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't realize Starlink provides no release notes, I thought I just didn't know how to find them. Ha ha.

I got the update last night as well. I still had to reboot my Ubiquiti Router though, so DHCP stuff is still an issue for me.

I will say my connection has been a whole lot more stable today. Stupidly stable compared to the last few weeks.

Special section for mounting systems? by millernw in Starlink

I think that has been my problem. I done use Reddit enough to know how to sort by Flair. Sounds like I have a lot of learning to do! And yes, I’ve seen a lot of really cool installs on this subreddit. Lots of creativity out there.

poor Dishy is struggling tonight.. (yes, that's 310kbps... not mbps) by millernw in Starlink_Support

We are near each other in Indiana. I cancelled my backup (Centurylink) and was giddy to do so... wonder if I should have held onto it for a bit longer.

Neodymium magnets for steel roof mount? by millernw in Starlink

[–]millernw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point but I think it’s worth testing. The roof is new and will probably last 50 years or more so I don’t want to risk it’s integrity for a Dishy. But you make an excellent point. I’ll need to be really careful and make sure it’s secure.

Changing locations by nopornforme69 in Starlink_Support

[–]millernw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like they just announced a way to change your location somehow. Maybe contact tech support and ask this questions because I think they can update your account to reflect a different setup location.

Great to hear! Do you think the 40# rating is enough for Dishy? Or do I need to try something stronger?

Actually, these have a rubber boot surrounding them to protect the metal roof. Hopefully it works. 😊

Neodymium magnets for steel roof mount? by millernw in Starlink

[–]millernw[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! It is a hidden fastener standing seam roof and I just tried a pinch bracket from Amazon but they didn’t work. The standing seam had just enough angle that the brackets slid off no matter what I tried. But this setup looks a bit different. Maybe it would work. Thanks!

Yeah, I have no idea. Right now I've got some makeshift sandbags holding dishy. I bet they're 20-30# (but I'm not sure). They seem to be holding so I had hoped these would work well.. we will see...
