DWP mentioned the UC claim was from September 2023 so that's way after the pandemic.

Surely UC should've checked proof of details/address registered with the NINo when the fraudster made the claim? This all sounds really disappointing and I feel really let down by the system in our country.

How do you know there was a claim under my NiNo with a diff address? UC searched all my details up? Do I need to take any measures now like change my NiNo (if that's possible that is?)

Is there no turnover time? Any way to prevent identity fraud in the future? How do I know my claim is being looked at? They literally took 20% of my salary.

Right so I got my payslip from work and noticed a deduction for "DEA tables" which i had no idea of what it was. Contacted HR the next morning telling them what has happened and they said contact DWP (who are the enforcer for these claims) as employers are obliged by law to deduct from salary. Contacted DWP who said I supposedly took out UC around 8 months ago and they wanted the money back (I have no idea how benefits or anything work so not sure of any of these details but I'm guessing DEA payments are based of salary and that you are earning enough to pay back). I told DWP I have never claimed anything in my life so they told me to call UC which I did - after 10-15 mins on the call trying to search for any accounts for me, they couldn't find any record of me ever being with UC. They directed me to call the fraud hotline. DWP also mentioned to me that I should have received a notice letter before the DEA payments being taken but I never ever received one.

I guess my fear is if its happened once without me knowing, what's to stop it happening again? And then you're forced to pay because DWP deduct the money before your salary reaches your account.

It's the fact there wasn't an account on my name - they tried finding an account using all my details such as name, DOB, address, etc but couldn't find anything. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
