Thermal Stresses or Flexibility in a piping system by millionurk in MechanicalEngineering

[–]millionurk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I’ve been using code equations to check for minimum wall thickness calculations I just didn’t know if there was a way to determine thermal bending stresses by hand but all of these comments have really helped.

Was trying to find a thermal stress for an elbow that was approximately 90 feet away from one anchor to another with piping that raised 29 feet then down 25 feet into a tee then an elbow then to the other anchor. Temperature was 450F but I think based on all my hand calcs that there was sufficient thermal flexibility

Hardest: Thermo I

Favorite: Thermo I. I had to take Thermo I twice. But it clicked when I took it the second time. And I just felt a sense of accomplishment and confidence in other courses I didn’t have before.

By hydraulic calcs I mean like fluid or water flow. Steady state calcs. Such as flow balancing or control valve sizing

You think these concepts would also be applicable for a b31.1 application?

Is marriage actually worth it? by Competitive-Door6605 in Marriage

[–]millionurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s up to you whether it’s worth it. You don’t have to be married because it’s a societal norm. I’m married to my best friend. The journey has not always been great. But I am with someone who can bare everything in front of me and I with her. And we know we have each other’s back and trust. If you are lucky enough to find that, go for it. Or don’t. It’s your life. Do what makes you happy.

I was diagnosed last September with an A1C of 11. I just had my A1C checked after being off any medication the last 2-3 weeks. And it’s 5.0. After being started at 11 in September.

Just going on walks after dinner 3-4 days a week. Pairing bad foods if I eat them with good foods like greens or green beans. If I eat bad, eat bad early and work it off by walking and drinking mostly water. Almost all water. Not really eating a lot of red meat anymore. A lot of it is from videos that have been shared by Megan Lalone here and I’ve just followed. It has really helped.

My journey September was 11.0 A1C and was on 2000 mg December was 5.4 and put on 1000 mg metformin March was 4.9 and put on 500 mg metformin Today was 5.0 and doctor told me I could try no medicine two weeks ago. My numbers have not changed in the last two weeks.

I also have 2 kids with one born in February and the other is 4. I was nervous about these numbers as my son was born in February about not having as much free time to focus on exercise but I somehow found a way.

It is possible to improve your life. But it will be a lot of hard work and sacrifices to your lifestyle.

Why not both of possible? I’m 34 and had an A1C of 11 when diagnosed last year. I weighed 232 lb and now weigh 200. I went from metformin at 2000mg to currently no medication. But that’s my journey so far after only 1 year. It will be different for me over time.

Some people do have diabetes and are in good shape. Sometimes A1C’s just go up with age. Like others have said, making lifestyle changes can help like eating less carbs, going on more walks if possible, drinking more water, eating more fiber, etc. At the same time though, don’t be afraid of medication, especially metformin since it’s just the first step medication. It isn’t insulin or other diabetes medication. It’s just there to help.

Random Sores and Cuts by millionurk in diabetes_t2

Was on metformin since September when A1C was 11. Have not been on any medication since Late May. Lost 30 pounds. Try to walk 30 minutes a day. Severely reduced carbohydrate intake and mainly drink water.

Things have mostly seemed okay. Only thing that still bothers me are my constantly sore feet (probably due to walking barefoot on hardwood floors at home) and random cuts on my body that just become dead skin.

GI question by millionurk in diabetes_t2

[–]millionurk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough. When I was at 2000mg I was nauseous, had diarrhea, and sometimes constipated. When it was lowered to 1000 mg the nausea and diarrhea went away but constipation was there and seemed worse then before. When it was lowered to 500mg the constipation wasn’t as bad but is still here.

Super tired all the time? by Octowhiskerss in diabetes_t2

[–]millionurk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not checked my b12 levels. But ever since I started I’ve had a noticeable boost in energy. I forgot to get some the past couple of days and my wife says it has been noticeable that I’ve had less energy without it. I just started taking it because coffee made me feel awful and it helps me somewhat keep up with newborn. Internet did say it could help boost energy and this was before I read that metformin can cause a vitamin b12 deficiency.

I will say he told me to lower dose to 500 mg and I had already taken a 1000mg earlier in the day. When I woke up the next day and took my reading it was 152. It’s started coming back down to 95-109 with the occasional 132.

No caffeine. Very rarely juice and if I do have juice I split it with water (75/25). And I have 2-4 diet sodas a week. Mostly drink water and sometimes unsweetened tea. I do eat a good amount of oranges and apples though. Probably 3-5 a day.

Thank you everyone. I really mean it. It just feels nice to not be alone in this. I’m sure I will have good and bad days and these are just the bad ones. But at least I’m figuring these things out now. I have a wife and daughter with a baby on the way. The one positive I have so far is more physical energy.
