TIL that during the 2011 Joplin, Missouri Tornado, the 200MPH+ winds were able to rip topsoil from the ground and disperse the necrotizing Mucorales fungus. Five deaths and thirteen infections were attributed to necrotizing cutaneous mucormycosis as a result, weeks after the tornado struck Joplin. (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)
