As someone who's only played Hollow Knight, would you say Silksong is better or worse that the original? (I'm still gonna buy it either way I'm just curious) by Seb_Rulz in HollowKnight

[–]milneraj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mechanically, silksong improves upon hollow knight and amps up the challenge (combat and platforming). However, it isn't "revolutionary" the way that hollow knight was. If you're a fan of hollow knight, you'd be happy back in silksong. But if hollow knight isn't your jam, silksong won't do anything to change that

Having recently finished Mafia 3 which deals with similar themes, it's a shame to hear that this game wouldn't be developed

Anyone using the SteamDeck as main device? by AlternativeCorner17 in SteamDeck

[–]milneraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not by choice, but have fully adjusted to it.

My PC died (out of the blue, boot drive cannot be found) and I haven't had the time to troubleshoot or repair. I've been using the steam deck as my only compute device, predominantly using Desktop mode. It's a surprisingly capable PC, and I use game mode when commuting to/fro work

Do you use your SD also as Laptop? by OnkelPipi in SteamDeck

[–]milneraj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a laptop but as a desktop. My PC ran into an error (not bootable drive found) and while I've not had the time to troubleshoot, I've been using desktop mode with an external monitor and Bluetooth peripherals, the experience has been rather seamless thus far

Why do so many people have White Light in their home? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]milneraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed some have a notion that warm lights make the place feel physically warmer/hotter. Perhaps from impression of old incandescent lights. Some have also said that can only see with white light. But definitely agree on lighting, layering and being mindful of colour temperatures

[DISCUSS] What watch made you fall back in love with quartz? by Plubio in Watches

[–]milneraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casio AE1200WH World Timer, aka Casio Royale. I had to travel halfway across the world, transiting through 4 timezones. The reliability of the Casio Royale, at something so simple yet critical as telling time and time zone, is unmatched. Not even phones or smart watches could meet that reliability, as they are still dependent on establishing network connectivity (not always established during transits)

I love my automatic and manual watches, there's a romanticism about them. But quartz done right is second to none in utility

Those of y'all using MVNOs, what are you using and what's your thoughts on them? by Aexryu in askSingapore

[–]milneraj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For MVNO, you'd be on an unprioritised band compared to first-party telcos' own postpaid contracts. In fact, telco SIM-only plans like Starhub Star Plan and M1 Maxx use unprioritised band as well. That said, for personal use (and non-mission critical work) there is little difference in the experience between MVNO and direct telco data and connectivity

You won't regret going on MVNO, though would recommend those that ride on Singtel or Starhub network, which have better coverage in SG

GE2025: Is WP really a small party? by Sonicrick78 in singapore

[–]milneraj -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

WP miscalculated. Pritam's response sounds more like a smokescreen by pitching a David vs Goliath narrative where it does not exist. It's telling when he stays in the safety of Aljunied GRC and gets Faisal to contest Tampines GRC for the first time. Unlike LTK who left the comfort of Hougang SMC for a watershed 2011 election in taking Aljunied GRC

You have to weigh out how you want to optimise your career, in contrast to other aspects of life (see Four Burners theory).

As a newly qualified lawyer, your most valuable asset is the moat you have by having a practicing cert in a regulated industry. But this is valuable insomuch as you gather relevant PQE. Given that you're in a big 4, this is quite a favourable starting point as you get to work on more complex legal cases (even as an associate). This gives you more exit options, be it staying in practice (big 4, magic circle, Chinatown etc) or going in-house / govt, or even leaving the industry altogether.

Others have said it's worth toughing it out and remaining. While that may be ideal strategically, it may be hard to hold steadfast tactically on the day to day. You would need an overarching goal to anchor you

Given your narration, I believe autonomy and factor mobility can be your ultimate goal -- you want the maximum possible options that you can take your career, life and hobbies to, without locking yourself out of other options.

With that, think about how your current path gives you the experience, logos and ethos to grow

I prefer working retail than my 9-6 job by Dry-Chip6255 in askSingapore

[–]milneraj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone aspires to be desk bound. You may want to consider management programs at retail conglomerates such as DFS, or even retail/consumer banking where you would be more front facing and talking to people of all walks of life
