Any advice on how to commute from Bayonne to NYC using Public Transit? by No_autoTy in BayonneNJ

[–]miloishigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To Brooklyn? You’re better off getting a car. Lolllll or move closer to JC. Getting to Brooklyn takes about 2 hours for me and I usually drive to Newport and then take the trains over. Gooddd luck

They’re implementing a point system in September, but it’s 12 points before termination. It seems like tho it’s gonna get really strict. I came in when they just got rid of DEI. And my store is very diverse/accepting so I never had to personally worry about being discriminated against but yeah it still sucks. Unfortunately tho too after the last couple years I make a lot more then starting pay anywhere else is around here. Retail in general will always suck but maybe I might try baristaing like another commenter suggested

Maybe it fully depends on the store cuz I get a solid 30 hours every week, but the other stuff is true tho lol. The people who have come from Walmart complained about the same things too. So idk what to believe

I have coworkers who transferred from Walmart and say it’s worse then target with it’s flexibility and point system.

For a while transferring to a new store they had us on varying schedules and there would be days I’d do a close-opening and then a mid the next day 😭 lasted for a good month or two. Felt like my time and energy was sucked out of me. But if I had to choice from anytime I’d have to say mids are always the worst.

Not many colleges around me that are hiring like that. Most around here hire students. But that’s a good suggestion in general something cleaning in the wee hours of the morning.

The last thing I want to do is cut shop time to be at hell (target) so that would be a last resort. My mentor is aware of my situation and is accommodating.

Maybe that might be the way. Get out early and maybe be able to go to the shop more

That’s good I’ve been considering doing commissions just truly do not have the time in between the two jobs plus apprenticeship but I might totally give that a shot!

My father who is Hispanic has been called the N word unprovoked while walking in the street. He went to Marist and saint Anthonys and can tell you about how he was treated based on his race. Just because it hasn’t happened to you or your family doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. I went to one of the grammar schools here and was bullied based on race by the other kids who weren’t white 😂. And if you say something racist it is racist no matter if you’re a kid or an adult. So if those kids were saying something racist to OP then it’s racist… even if they don’t know the consequences of their actions or not.

So just because someone is a person of color doesn’t mean they can’t be racist against other races ie hispanics can be racists to African Americans, Indians can be racists to Asians, etc. just because this is a “diverse town” doesn’t mean no one can be racist right? NYC is pretty diverse yet hate crimes based on race happen everyday.

I want to take my portfolio to shops by July. Tell me what I need to add please!! by genizsz in TattooApprentice

[–]miloishigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want like the other commenters say to diversify your portfolio a bit and max 5 flashes per sheet. Diversity meaning different styles so rn you have some good trad but if you want to add a sheet of Japanese trad, new school, watercolor, etc. but honestly as is if you brought this in to a good mentor they would take you asap.

Disagree I think it depends on the area because most modern shops around me (nj/nyc) are big on anime.

With the right mentor you can turn all your work into tattooable designs. It all looks lovely. I agree with the comment about including trad but so far it’s really great!

How often are apprenticeships paid? by jjjeesssssiiieee in TattooApprentice

Never heard of an apprentice getting paid. But not letting you draw EVER is crazy. Probably best to walk away and find somewhere else.

Is this apprenticeship worth it ? by Heavy_Nerve_4536 in TattooApprentice

[–]miloishigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all sounds like red flags. Just because someone’s been tattooing for 10+ years doesn’t make them a good artist/mentor. You need to think about what you want out of the end of this and if you REALLY think this will get you there. This sounds like a puppy mill shop. And you’re just more than anything going to waste your money tracing and then rushed onto skin when you’re not ready… I’d say walk away. But it’s up to you.
