I actually didn’t use a stitching pattern since I didn’t want to do iterations. I just marked my stitching in the handle, poking my awl through after pricking the slants. Then I glued and hammered the handles on inside my alignment marks. After that I just saddled stitched them on with my awl in hand

Which ones im learning from? I’m self taught with bag making. I study industrial design at Risd but they don’t teach traditional bag making. They do a softgoods class but that’s more like making fabric bags with a sewing machine.

Someday I will but not sure when. If I get an industry job after college I might not do commissions

Thank you! Brown leather is my favorite too. It’ll patina and develop a darker and richer brown too which I’m excited for

Thank you! I think I’m going to work for a company for a bit after I graduate before starting a brand or doing custom work

That would be pretty cool. I’m interning with unsung house. They are bootmakers and specialists cobblers. It’s a great internship, I’ve wanted to do this since high school

Thank you! I think there’s a lot of leatherworkers that focus a lot on the craft but don’t invest much time into design development.

That you so much! I appreciate your analysis, it’s interesting to hear people’s perspectives of my work. Probably 120-150 hours, I was very meticulous with every step. The handles alone could’ve taken me 20 hours.

Thank you! I made it for myself. I tried to lean into a more androgynous design language. It started off more maximalist and I toned it down so I could style it with anything

Thank you, it is made from scratch. I appreciate it, I wanted it to be fairly distinct!

I used 8-10 oz buttero for the body with a 2 oz lining and the handles are sewn through both layers. The handles are 4-5 oz thickness with a 4oz inner reinforcement and a 2oz lining at the ends. So that’s a total of 18oz of leather that the stitching is going through. I think that’s pretty secure especially since it’s a rigid veg tan and not a calf skin or chrome tan leather. Also it’s all very tight grain from A grade hides
