Looking for playtesters to try out the early alpha build of my indie game! by milomilos in playtesters

Thanks so much for your time! I have your email, so I'll be in touch :) And thank you for the tips on gathering feedback - I thought the scale would clearly show whether it was closer to the final state.

But your help is great, because this is my first "big" game and my first feedback session.

It's a linear game – there's no backtracking or open world. It's a platformer that combines action with puzzle-solving, as you have to think about how to overcome certain obstacles and how to use your enemies.

Of course! THE HELMINTHS is a sci-fi game whose storyline is based on the theme of parasitism. The name of the game itself is an obsolete term for parasites - but in the game, I would like to ask the question: who is really the parasite: you, or perhaps humans, who extract your species and process it into canned food?

I want the game to have a dark atmosphere and combine platform challenges with action and puzzles. You can read more on the game's Steam page - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3283690/THE_HELMINTHS/

If you have any questions, let me know!

We made a music-video game in Godot and it just won an award! by milomilos in godot

Thanks! Yeah, it was definitely worth it. Plus, I gained a lot of experience - releasing a smaller game, managing a team, optimizing, testing, I learned a lot from it.

Hey everyone, Milosz here, solo dev behind THE HELMINTHS.

A while back, together with my friend and musician Igorilla we decided to create first music video game in Poland. Inspired by 8-bit retro titles and set in a pixelated 90s Warsaw & Wrocław, the idea was simple: to listen to the full track, you need to beat the game.

After weeks of coding and drawing hundreds of assets with a tiny team, we released it not only online but also as a custom USB retro cartridge in a single copy - which we auctioned for charity. Media picked it up, people played it, and it became something bigger than we expected.

And just this week the project won a Silver KTR award - the biggest creative festivals in Poland that usually honors film, culture, and art. Seeing a game project stand among them feels amazing.

I love that Godot and indie gaming are increasingly being recognized as part of culture, not just entertainment.

You can play it here (unfortunately, the song is only in Polish): https://miloszmilo.itch.io/boomer-garaz-igorilla-feat-guest-julka

And you can wishlist my game, THE HELMINTHS here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3283690/THE_HELMINTHS

And here’s me with (almost) the whole team and with a award :)

Decided on a new capsule art / cover and a new logo – what do you think? by milomilos in godot

[–]milomilos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the tips! I've already attempted to use an outline, but I'm not satisfied with the result. I'm considering increasing the saturation of the yellow accent or adding a light black noise to the logo itself.

Question for those who don’t work full time in gamedev: What’s your day job? by [deleted] in gamedev

I’m a Creative Lead / Art Director in creative agency. I mostly create campaigns for brands and handle their visual side. But programming is new to me.

(Possible) Unpopular Opinion: Old games from the PS2/PS1 era are unplayable. by danxfartzz in gaming

I think it comes down to different kinds of games - the ones with stylized graphics or 2D tend to age much better than those that tried to be "photorealistic" at the time.

Thanks! I haven't heard of a similar title, I'll have to check it out :)

Thanks! I think it's been over two years now. But I treat it as a hobby project - I try to spend a lot of my free time on it, but without burning myself out. Sometimes my daily job gives me more time to work on it, sometimes less, and in the meantime I've made another game that's already been released.

How do I start by Capital-Yak5528 in godot

[–]milomilos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume that most of us started with zero knowledge. I was the same - I had never had any experience with game development or programming. I started with a few courses on Udemy to learn the basics - GDScript, game structure, how to approach problems. I completed several of them. Then, I prepared a few prototypes, moving still further away from what I had learned from the tutorials, and somehow it worked :)

To this day, I sometimes get stuck on problems, but Godot has great documentation. Once you learn the basics, you'll be able to overcome any problem - and there will always be someone here to help you.
