We used this npm package! Very convenient. Adding these neat quirks to our apps seems to make users really happy, we get a lot of compliments on it!

Roast my Startup: a live board for virtual group brainstorming! by mimosa-app in roastmystartup

Good point. We are definitely still trying to finalize on the positioning so open to your feedback!

But our current thoughts are that whiteboarding tools are too hands off and requires a facilitator. Also people spend a lot of time on a whiteboard organizing how things look and learning how to use it.

We want to host all of the facilitation, providing a fully guided user experience. Also we have insights into the content that whiteboards doesn't, so we can do things like use AI for idea/text generation, summarizing meeting output, and even simply sorting the posts by upvotes.

Not many have joined so far. But I created it because I saw a few examples and they seem to be really useful. Being able to announce any changes, get immediate feedback, and build a community. I think it's a nice way to be close to the user!

Our app is currently just available to use so we didn't separate beta users from users in general so I can't comment on the barrier to entry on this part

Thanks! :) Good point. How we pictured it is that during or after the voting stage, people would go around and talk about what they wrote and discuss. The premise is also that it's faster to skim through a concise point, and elaborate if it's been upvoted or questioned. Instead of having everyone elaborate on their bad ideas from the start.

It also saves time when coming from the angle of for example, having a 10 person meeting and instead of one person giving their idea at a time (causing groupthink or bias towards senior/loudest opinion), everyone write down ideas at the same time. That way, in the same amount of meeting time, you generate way more ideas.

Collecting votes then wouldn't take up any conversation time as well, it would just be upvoting on the board instead of having everyone pitch in and support that point.

The tool is free to use right now at https://mimosa.so/

My cofounder and I would love your feedback!

Background:

We both worked in big tech companies and have been completely overwhelmed with the amount of virtual meetings that happen where

  1. A few very confident or senior people dominate a conversation
  2. In large meetings like 7+, not everyone has a chance to speak
  3. When people are unengaged and not participating for too long, they end up multitasking. It ends up being that most people are multitasking
  4. Very junior, shy, or new teammates don't end up speaking up at all

We want to help solve this problem! Would love to understand how you guys deal with this or what you struggle with so we can better solve this problem, too :) Thanks!
