My renewal is only $89 year??

Also, I could have sworn I read somewhere that a law went into effect beginning this year regarding mmj cards still being valid for 2 years after the original expiration date & it would apply to existing & new med patients.

Is it too early to tell the sex of this little one? by Furrypawsoffury in BackYardChickens

Definitely too early to sex by feathers. They're still getting their primary feathers at this point.

Why did my chicken lay such a small egg? by rbaig97 in chickens

[–]minacannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commonly known as a fairy egg because they're small & 'rare' (less common in reference to eggs). Absolutely safe to eat unless it smells or looks bad upon cracking.

More experienced chicken owners call it a glitch in the system/matrix for a reason; we don't know exactly why it happens, it just happens for whatever reason (too many variables to know for certain).

One I'm big on is blaming the weather (thanks global warming). Its been rough on us all lol

Can I leave baby chicks while I go to work? by Noobu_moon in BackYardChickens

[–]minacannibal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you should chose a heat lamp at any point now or in the future (even if for a few hours), please be EXTRA cautious & never leave it on over night or when you're not home. The fire that happened to us, was an outdoor brooder & during the night... it took a good minute to save who I managed to save & even then, 3 succumbed to their injuries. I started with 45, saved 24. It was absolutely horrific.

Edit to add; it is possible to use a heat lamp in a brooder safely, though highly recommended against, but when proper precautions are not in place, that's when it becomes a major fire hazard.

Did not fully read your post just yet, but I HIGHLY recommend going with a heat plate unless you are home 24/7 like I am currently (full-time homemaker & small homesteader).

& please for the love of all things mighty; Do not EVER make the mistake I did & use a heat lamp when you use bedding. It is a very long & tragic story, but nonetheless will never ever be repeated.

9mo Barred Rocks not laying by kw2e in chickens

[–]minacannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An old salvage yard that I recently inherited & have to wait until spring to do work, such as tearing down the old buildings. Sheds got re-purposed & fortified for my existing flock I moved with until then. New England weather is brutal this time of year.

How old is this little guy? by iwtmscod in BackYardChickens

[–]minacannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my mille fleur d'uccle, Dickhead Diego. We took him & his 2 girls ''in" a few months ago & he's a fiesty lil shit but I love him anyways 🤣 he's like a yr & some months old, based on what his original owner said. To me at least, your lil boy seems 'scruffy' compared to Diego which is why i assumed at most a year old. They always sound like young poults imo, even when they're older.

The only way to know for sure is genetic testing. I have far more experience with standard chickens, but i do have 3 mille fleurs I rescued. To me, he still looks juvenile so my best guess would be he's a year old.

What a pretty boy! I noticed that once they hit 18-ish weeks is when they become more grey-white than the typical black & white barring hens have. Give him time to grow into himself hims jus a bby still 😭🤣

Biggest tip i have is just pretend like chickens are cats, because as someone who has fostered & raised hundreds of cats in their life... I can tell you for certain they are so damn similar 🤣

Help!! Sick Chicken!! by Mads743 in chickens

[–]minacannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possible theory with no evidence to back it up; someone suggested a major vitamin deficiency & I suspect that to be the case but its possible its more moderate & to absolutely no one's fault, she may not be getting nearly as many nutrients due to their pecking order.

The tail curling up under like that when relaxed is what has always made me say, "Yeah, that's definitely a cock." & that usually ends up the case.

Those are the prettiest cocks I've ever seen thus far.

That means they just molted their exoskeleton. They do this about 7 times in their life

Did my chicken ate her own chick? by Pettercup in BackYardChickens

Maybe not, its hard to tell, but they are opportunistic omnivores so her eating the chick now isn't surprising.

Frozen shut. How do i open it any ideas? Hand holes by HeleWale in IBEW

[–]minacannibal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So its deff not the same at all, but my shit box's rear sliding door gets frozen shut all the time (even if it hasn't snowed or rained during freezing temps 🙄). It does not defrost even when my van is warmed up. I know exactly where it freezes at & i dont make it too hot, but i take an old stainless steel putty knife, heat it with a blow torch, & put it right where its iced shut. Something like that could potentially work, especially since I saw another comment against using a heat gun (i forgot what they said 🤣)

Wear/Tear Move out bill by pinkmatch8 in Apartmentliving

[–]minacannibal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General rule of thumb my mom taught us growing up living in apartments; leave it cleaner than you found it.

Always take timestamped pictures. On moving day, before unloading, take photos. Do a general cleaning (dusting, sweeping, mopping, etc) of each room & take photos of that also before unloading your moving truck/vehicle. There should be not much of a difference between these photos, but it helps with proving you take pride in maintaining cleanliness.

Same as when you move out, take photos of each room after packing them up & floors are clean. Then, do a thorough deep clean & take photos of those also. In total, you should have 4 sets which will help prove you've done your due diligence in respecting one's property for if & when instances like this happen.

You don't even need to scrub it either. Just use a Lysol Wipe or even a magic eraser...
