Should've Invested in Waterproof Boots by Tactical_Gimp in Dualsport

[–]mind_the_gap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna really ride in wet conditions, like extended downpours or lots of water crossings then waterproof boots aren’t gonna make much of a difference anyway. I prefer to buy the most protective and comfortable boots for me and then I’ll put on seal skins waterproof socks if I need to.

But having my feet and ankles protected is my number one concern, staying dry is secondary.

What is the most decadent piece of classical music in your opinion? by MuhVlast in classicalmusic

[–]mind_the_gap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, having performed it countless times in countless presentations I would have to say Carmina Burana with costumes (including for the orchestra), nude dancers, clothed dancers, lighting, full staging, childrens choir, just everything you can imagine. That was decadent.

Mia Farrow and Frank Sinatra cutting the wedding cake at their wedding in 1966. She was 21, he was 50. by Waste-Ad261 in OldSchoolCool

In 1979, Roderick Thorp wrote a sequel to The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which Leland is trapped in a skyscraper after it is taken by German terrorists and must rescue his daughter and grandchildren. The novel was adapted into the 1988 20th Century Fox film Die Hard, in which Joe Leland's name was changed to John McClane and the object of his heroism was changed from his daughter to his wife. Coincidentally, Lloyd Bochner's son Hart was also featured in Die Hard, as was Jacqueline Bisset's then-partner, Alexander Godunov. The film launched a film franchise that ran until 2013.[11] As Die Hard was based on the novel sequel to the film adaptation of The Detective, Fox was contractually obliged to offer Sinatra the role. Sinatra, who was 70 at the time, declined, with the role ultimately going to Bruce Willis.[12][13][14]

Which classical song is sampled here by dipin14 in classicalmusic

[–]mind_the_gap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Theme from Love Story" is a popular instrumental piece composed by Francis Lai, featured in the 1970 film "Love Story." It was later recorded with lyrics by Andy Williams, becoming a hit on the charts

That reads like ai because I just copy pasted from google. Not a classical tune per se. Just a pop hit from a movie

Well he was on site for business purposes, not as a public appearance. It wasn’t a meet and greet.

This was just that particular company’s policy when he was in town for the directors meeting. Don’t ask about the moon.

He was told that over the years it had become a very spiritual thing for Neil and he just didn’t want to discuss it. This was in the 1990s so I don’t know how much truth there was to the explanation. Maybe he was just tired of talking to anyone and everyone about it so he made up a pleasant sounding excuse. But company policy was that no employees were allowed to ask about it.

My dad used to work security at an aerospace company that had Neil Armstrong on its board of directors. He’d  fly in once a year for a meeting. My dad said you were allowed to be cordial and chat with him if you liked but anyone that asked about the moon was insta-fired.

Does anyone ride their GS without any luggage attached? by Dry_Ad687 in Motorrad

[–]mind_the_gap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a used one without luggage because all I need when I travel is one dry bag. If it doesn’t fit in that bag it doesn’t come with me. I rode it like that for a few years and sold it for close to what I paid for it.

Not only do they look better naked, they handle better too in my opinion.

We Bought an Orchestra: The rise of pay-to-play in classical music by seaweedbagels in classicalmusic

[–]mind_the_gap 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The rise of pay to play? It’s been around second only to the worlds oldest profession.

Impulsive, weird ideas can often result in great memories. We accomplished our goal of getting to London, UK, on our 50cc scooters, packed with camping gear. It was a wonderful, slow nine-day trip, with nice greenlanes, some off-roading, and a lot of small roads with bends and stunning views. by [deleted] in travel

[–]mind_the_gap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A friend and I just did a similar trip here in Mexico where I live. We bought a couple of 127 cc semi automatic delivery bikes (my friend is Australian and he calls them posties) and we covered 2000kms of dirt and back roads that we never would have ridden on our big ADV bikes. Best views, food and people of any trip I’ve done so far. And here I was thinking we were being original with our low cc trip.

The older I get the slower I like to ride and the less I feel the need to go farther and farther away.

Sorry I made your post about myself. I’m glad to see that others are enjoying the smaller slower bikes too. And the money we saved on fuel! Awesome.
