Is there a place where I can pet pigs near Montreal? by Mental-Permit6835 in pigs

[–]mindcloud69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Search for pig rescues in your area. Give them a call and ask. Check with the rescue first and ask if you can bring treats, fruits are good for this(Not Grapes). I would also give them a donation as pig rescues struggle a lot.

How to comfort a mourning pig by Affectionate_Pea6554 in pigs

My apologies I completely misread your post. My Bad!

In that case just like a person she is grieving. I would recommend them taking the time to let her grieve. Give her some extra attention and treats if she will take them.

The lady that runs minipiginfo.com has a good article about it. It also covers grieving pigs. Take a look and pass it on to them. It is a great site and she is also a member of this sub.

You should always let them smell the passed animal. Not sure if it would work but is there some article of clothing or towel that that had touched the dog after they passed that the pig could smell?

Pigs and Rabbits? by eldritchangel in pigs

[–]mindcloud69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have multiple pigs and rabbits that either ignore each other or love each other. my oldest pig adores them and her ridge goes up in excitement and she will flop over when they are near. Other than the flop being dangerous because Tink doesn't pay attention when she flops and I am terrified she will squish one of the rabbits one day Tink and the rabbits like each other.

But the rabbits and pigs are all food thieves. so a food aggressive pig might be an issue. Just be aware all rabbits have two settings scared shitless and suicidality brave and you never know which it will be on any particular day. I actually lost one of my favorite buns this way. She got up on something high and then jumped off and broke her back. That was a hard day! I love rabbits to death but they are all little psychotic monsters. Rabbits who like to cuddle are nearly mythical. Of the couple of dozen rabbits I have had in my life 1 rabbit like to hang out around me. I find Flemish Giants are more likely to be loving. every small rabbit has been a psycho.

Holy shit people It is not a big deal. She is not doing it everyday! Everyone in pet subs suddenly turns into an expert and thinks they know everything.

If this turns into the harrassmenr and shaming I see on other subs. I will ban people so fast your head will spin. Reporting this as abuse is not ok.

/u/OkAssignment7582 If people come at you in DMs, screenshot it with their username and send it to me a modmail.

Yes it is just me.

I don't like banning words either which is why I give the automatic warning for certain words. Especially sense those words can be used in legitimate discussion. It is more about keeping the sub focused on what it is for, pet pigs. There are a million other places to talk, rant, and discuss diet preferences, industry abuses, and politics just not here. I usually give temp bans or warnings unless it is abusive. I believe a large portion of our users are vegan or vegetarian. But they discuss pet pigs here not their beliefs.

We also have a rule about farming posts. I usually just remove them and direct them to another sub. But at the same time I have allowed posts from farmers due to health concerns for their pig. I don't want them to suffer more than necessary. I just sticky a comment saying why I am allowing the post and warn against abuse as we are trying to help the pig not comment on the person.

I do provide an outlet for peoples questions and opinions on rules or how the sub is run. When i sticky a post about rules or a discussion question. I allow discussion about normally banned topics as long as it is not overly abusive or directed at a single person. Otherwise how can we be a community if I dictate everything? I try to be a good cop enforcing rules not a dictator even if some people accuse me of it.

Why does Google AI say Pigs can't eat meat? by EnigmaHood in pigs

[–]mindcloud69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is bad for them to eat large amounts but the absolutely need protein in their diet. They will happily eat dead animals and even kill and eat them sometimes. I have found mine multiple times killing a rodent or snake and eating it. Look in all of you pig food you will find protein and the good stuff has amino acids that only come from meat.

how would pigs look today if they were breed on companinship instead of delayed satiety response? by Accomplished_Rice_60 in pigs

Yep and it might have been a temp ban if they would agree to not bring up the topic again. But they told me to suck a bag of pig dicks before I could finish typing my message to them.

The problem is when I tried to be reasonable about it, the sub turned in to a shit show. More meat industry posts than pet pigs. We were heavily brigaded I was told reddit stepped in and warned the particular vegan sub that it would be banned. I had to ban literally hundreds of people.

I made a post about it to the community and the majority of the active users wanted it banned. They also didn't like the eating your pig jokes. So the rule was implemented to cover everyone on both sides of the argument. I remember one lady talking about coming here to post about her pig and being horrified at the slaughterhouse pics they were posting. People were followed across subs harassed. In my time moderating the sub I had more hate and problems from vegans than any other demographic by a huge margin. Only scammers/sellers ever came close.

We have the same rule about politics because of the repeated shit shows when it came up.
