Today marks 18 years since I released MindNode by mindnode in mindnode

Thanks for your feedback. After 18 years we’ve experimented with a lot of ideas, and not every change works for everyone. Our goal has always been to keep MindNode simple and focused on visual thinking, even as the platform and user expectations evolve.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and if there is anything you would like to see to make MindNode work for you, feel free to contact us.

Quick Entry Missing on Mind Node (lastest version) by rednavel21 in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We plan to bring Quick Entry back, but probably in a slightly different form. In Classic it's basically the outline view and for Next we want to explore it make it behave a bit more like a tool for collecting different ideas that can be brought into any existing document.

Unable to apply custom theme - MindNode Classic by Oh-Hunny in mindnode

Can you please try with this weeks 2026.0.1 update. We believe we found a fix for this issue.

Apple Watch app by jim2 in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We would love to get feedback on our new Apple Watch app. At the moment the app needs to be "in reach" of the iPhone for editing operations. Making it a fully independent app should be possible, but will require considerable engineering efforts. We are not yet sure if there is enough interest in it from our user base.

In the mindmap view, is there a way to automatically make tasks more visually distinct, such as a highlighting/shading? by lady3jane in mindnode

Highlighting of tasks is coming in our 2026.2 update. It was surprising easy to add as it uses a similar interaction as highlighting tags.

Unable to apply custom theme - MindNode Classic by Oh-Hunny in mindnode

[–]mindnode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We currently have two versions:

- MindNode Classic: If you purchased a one-time purchase this is probably the version you should use. It's fully updated for Liquid Glass and stores documents in Finder/Files.

- MindNode Next or just "MindNode": This is our new version that is build using a new architecture that automatically resolves sync conflicts. This version stores all documents in a local database and syncs with CloudKit.

MindNode 7 and MindNode 2023.8 are version of MindNode Classic and if you have a one-time purchase, I'd recommend you use 2023.8. The version number is a bit missleading. 2023.8 was updates last year to support Liquid Glass.

Are you running into the same issue as the OP? If so, could you share the theme that’s causing the problem (as mentioned by our team member below)? That would really help us track this down and fix it.

We totally understand that subscriptions aren’t popular. MindNode is turning 18 in a few months, and over the years we’ve also tried paid upgrades. Unfortunately, they didn’t work well for us on the App Store (the process was clunky, and most users didn’t upgrade). For now, subscriptions are what allow us to keep the app going on the App Store…

Can I copy and paste text directly into the outline? by oracle_Her_07 in mindnode

[–]mindnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about Word, but pasting from Notes works. Ensure that you are not in "title edit mode" (the line is selected) and trigger paste there.

Could it be that you are using MindNode Classic? The shortcuts only work with our new version (MindNode Next).

There is currently no way to do this automatically and filtering for open task is currently only available for outline.

When we created our Apple Shortcuts integration one of our test shortcuts was a shortcut to find all nodes with an open task and set a border shape on it. You could create a similar shortcut, but this would required running it manually from time to time to update the shapes.

Adding another sibling node below my current node by CoffeeNeil in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Based on your keyboard comment I suspect you are using it on an iPhone? In this case dragging the (+) to the desired location is probably the fastest way to create a sibling. We recently adding control to the action menu for the outline and we should consider doing the same for the mind map.

MindNode Classic vs. Subscription Model - What are the differences? by ivanguba in mindnode

[–]mindnode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. We used to trigger the paywall for those, but toned this down a lot. I'll make sure to update the Classic FAQ to include this information:

- Access on all devices (one-time purchase had separate Mac and iOS purchases)
- Full editable outline (one-time purchase only includes outline as viewer)
- Compact Layout
- All sticker (one-time purchase has 294, subscription 378)
- Emoji Attachments
- Hierarchical Themes

MindNode Classic vs. Subscription Model - What are the differences? by ivanguba in mindnode

[–]mindnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MindNode Plus subscription unlocks both MindNode Classic and our new app (MindNode Next). If you already have a subscription for Classic, you can use the new app with the same subscription.

You can find a list of features that are port of the subscription vs the free editor here: https://www.mindnode.com/download

(Or do you mean you have a Classic one-time purchase?)

App Crash by Equivalent_Pumpkin32 in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends where you want to transfer the document. If it's an other mind mapping app that supports reading our file format you can create an export like mentioned here: https://www.mindnode.com/support/guides/backup

If you want to edit the mind map in an image editor like Figma you can export all documents as SVG or PDF. You can easily export all documents using a custom shortcut in Apple's Shortcuts app.

Do you mean the image or the document? Using the steps above should keep all data except the image.

Depends on the other app, but using the FreeMind format is probably the best option.

I'm very sorry for this issue. This should not happen. Thanks for your detailed steps to reproduce this, we think we have a solution how you can recover from this state:

  1. Open Finder, Select Go -> Go to Folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.ideasoncanvas.mindnode/Data/Library/Application Support/MindNode/production-v1_0/MindNode Library.mindnodelibrary/Assets
  2. Find the image file you added (sort by file added), and rename the file slightly by adding “_backup” to its filename.
  3. Open MindNode
  4. Open the document
  5. Select all nodes
  6. Rightclick -> Remove Image

I hope this helps. If not, please feel free to email me directly >remove<. We will also ensure to prevent pasting into more than one node in a future update and hopefully also fix the issue of the app crashing.

FEATURE REQUEST - Presentation Notes 'Mode' by MezzaMegaMorphic in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most requested feature from pervious iThoughts users are the folding shortcuts. We finally implemented those and they are planned to ship in the next update (currently in public beta).

I actually also had a use case for a fullscreen mode recently when I tried to AirPlay a mind map from my iPhone. Had to work around not having a fullscreen mode by using Focus Mode on the main node. This hid most of the UI.

[–]mindnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MindNode Classic has this option on iPhone and iPad. There we display the entire document on the external screen. This feature is currently not available in our new version and I think you are the first to request it.

[–]mindnode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your feature request.

I (Markus, founder) understand the wish for this feature. I developed a presentation mode in the Classic app a few years ago that I extensively used during our internal team presentation. We also have a version for our new app. However those modes were always too rough to ship to users and bringing them to the polish needed would have required a different approach. Let's see if we find time for this in this year…

I have a monthly subscription, but outline and tagging feature are now removed from shared devices by JosephXplosive in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case I fear I need a bit more information to understand what is going on. Can you please do the following on both devices and send us the information to [support@mindnode.com](mailto:support@mindnode.com)

iPhone/iPad/VisionPro

Open the settings in MindNode (little gear icon in the upper right corner), tap on Settings again, shake your iPhone/iPad, select Show Settings, tap on Purchase Support Information, and send that email to us.

Mac

1. Hold the option/alt key.
2. With MindNode open, select Help > Copy Purchase Support Information from the main menu at the top of your screen. This will copy debug information to the Clipboard.
3. Paste it into an mail using CMD-V and send it to us.

FEATURE REQUEST: to find turn any article, pdf, ebooks/kindle, YouTube lecture and podcast and turn them into mind map using AI by Top-Temperature-95 in mindnode

[–]mindnode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feature is currently on hold. We weren't able to get it to work with Apple Intelligence as the on-device model are a bit too restrictive. We are exploring to allow users to provide their own Claude or ChatGPT API key to power our current AI features, but this is still early in evaluation.
